Left Click not working :(

Needing help/advice with this on going issue.
My laptop - Vaio VPSF12C5E - Win 7 64bit, was working fine, turned it on one day a few weeks ago and the Left click is "right clicking".
I have tried =
changing the cursor/pointing options on the lapto
downloadin the drivers from the vaio website
reinstalling the drivers from the laptops recovery option
i've even formatted the machine twice
and nothing has fixed this.
Also, the FN key doesn't work(hasn't worked for over a year), not sure if this is linked.
The laptop is out of warranty so i'd have to payy a small fortune to send to sony.
I am wanting to fix the issue so i don't have to sell(ebay).
Any & all advice is welcome.

It sounds like you’re experiencing an issue with the SMC (system management controller) this is an Apple centric term but almost all laptops have a controller chip of some sort and it will most likely be named something Sony specific. Its responsible for controlling built in devices such as the keyboard function keys, backlight control, fan speed, hard disk free-fall sensors etc. In a way it operates alongside the bios and is independent of any operating system so reinstalling an OS won’t help in this situation.

I’m no expert in this area but I would look at ways to reset this controller chip or return your bios to their default values. Be careful with anything BIOS related though as damage can be done very easily.

You could have course be dealing with a pure hardware fault which may be solved with compressed air.
You could also enable the tap to click option in windows allowing the track pad area to accept left clicks in the mean time.

Here is a screen shot of all Vaio junk that's on my system. I can't see anythink like the SMC you mentioned.

What happens if you tick the "switch primary buttons" in mouse settings?

It still right clicks and when i tap the touchpad, that also brings up the right click menu.

Have you tried running a malware scan. Definatley a longshot but you never know, I've seen computers do some weird things when infected with malware. Failing that uninstall drivers using external mouse to reinstall and update bios.
