left for dead public demo/free ?

I was hoping to preload this before Tuesday, but clicking the link seems to do nothing. OK I didn't pre-order via Steam, but I'm not expecting to play just yet, why can't I atleast preload??

I'm really taking a distaste to this recent marketing trend. Pre-order the game and then you get to play more of the demo/earlier, mirrors edge has done it with the time trial feature and now this. I was under the impression a demo was there to use in order to form your own decision whether to buy a game, not bribe you into doing so.

Meh, probably being a bit pedantic but there you go.

completely agree with you mate

demos are there for 1 purpose, and thats to get a feel of the game before you spend £30 on a game!

Why though? If people 'know' they want the game, what is young with them pre-ordering? And getting a taster.

Everyone's getting the demo, even if you haven't pre-ordered, I see nothing wrong with it really.

If they didn't do this, and it was only being released on the 11th for everybody...regardless of pre-orders, no one would be moaning...Well no, people would be, because they'll be going "Omgz!!! Only x amount of days to paly before I buy!1@!".

:)...Put it this way, at least your getting a demo, half the games that coe out nowadays don't even have a demo.

True but people are suckers. :D

Just after my Economics assignment, great =D
But I have severe doubts about 4 player limit, Zombie Panic:Source is much better IMO (and its free)

I tried that the other day.

It's very jolty, still trying to get the hang of it.

Just generally feels weird.

Yes you are.

Bribe nothing.

There is a free demo, so you can decide if you want to buy the game, and it's out 11th.

i buy most games for £17-£20 still half of the crappy console prices ;p ... but then im select in what i buy as too many games these days promise so much and deliver so little

Zombie Panic is just about okay, but next to Left4Dead is very very basic and boring

ZPS is what you make it. It can be boring if you're going about it all wrong, get a good team together and come up with some decent escape/survival and its a brilliant laugh with everyone on mic. I am still playing ZPS on and off having started on the first public release. :p

Whereas what I have seen and heard (from a couple of friends who have the demo) L4D looks like it could get old pretty sharpish. :(

meaning the demo should have been free in the first place, not just available only if you pre order.

can you edit my crime talk out please mate

Why should it? I said earlier in the thread they don't have to do it.

Atleast they're releasing a demo, unlike most developers out there.

I've played ZPS, very much enjoyed it. One of the best mods I have ever played in fact, but the L4D demo (10% of the full campaign, with options missing like zombie play and not including versus etc) has given me so far 17 hours of gaming brilliance. ZP has nothing on L4D, in re-playability and quality.

There were tons of bugs that have already been ironed out, you guys that didn't pre-order should be greatfull, this is working a bit like a beta.
