Lefties

Actually I think GD is the middle ground.

I am more left leaning its just more about social responsibility than the greed culture of the right (look at America for a Prime example, a broken country) Just because people want out of Europe does not make them right wing zealots. Europe is a failed experiment as a species we are not capable of what Europe should be at this current time. Too many countries involved are way behind the others in economic and sociocomic standings (might have made a new word oooooh)

Europe would work if it was 2 tier system maybe 3.

What about disabled people.

Most of my friends are lefties. I think this forum is much more right winged than the population of the UK. Look at the EU thread. Chances are that we are staying in the EU. Only UKIP want to leave (and this forum).

Sometimes you wouldn't think it but there are more left discussions I've seen in years than right.

This is GD -- let's put everyone into one happy basket for some moderately obsessive name-calling! :)

I thought that was life in general? Everyone has to be placed in a box. Those who can't, they don't know what to do with them except call them extremists.

When people say most of their friends especially educated ones are lefty, do they relay mean that?
as at least in my circles they're aligned most with lib dems. Which are right. But very anti authoritarian.

You're forgetting their SDP-inspired contingent, which now also holds the leadership of the party, though not most of their remaining rump of MPs. However, I doubt that's left to the New Left?

Isn't this just a confirmation bias? Of course you perceive people with different opinions than your usual echo-chamber to be stupid or mad. After all, if they weren't stupid or mad, they'd see the world like you do, right?

Most people I know IRL I'd say were slightly right leaning - maybe 1 in 6-7 have significantly left leaning views. A good proportion are lib dem aligned but then this is formerly lib dem territory until the last election.

I can't believe I'm actually starting a political thread, but let me state right off the bat that as a filthy forriner, I am not as clued up on the political atmosphere in this country as most, so this is just to gain some insight.

Let's talk about lefties

Overclockers UK Forums > Life > General Discussion > I am a right-wing foreigner, ask me about being deported by the party I support

#regressiveleft is sticking because there are now so many tumblr kiddies spouting **** trying to be the next big feminist/environmentalist/marxist but missing the point by misquoting "facts" (like 1 in 5 female US uni students are raped) and actually tainiting the topics they pick.

A lot of liberal / left thinkers started the hashtag because they're sick of left leaning people merely trying to shout out the right leaning and conservatives rather than debate with them. I like Dave Rubin's show "the rubin report" because although he's a liberal he purposely interviews controversial and conservative speakers and actually lets them speak.

http://www.unsafespeech.com/ has just been launched and i think eventually it'll be a great alternative media outlet. No bias, just open speech with no censorship.

As someone else has said, it's getting tiring having a slight left leaning default and any conservative thinker getting labelled as 1 step away from Hitler. Even though i'm left leaning, i'm very liberal and "small government" and i hate how PC and closed things are getting.

I'm a bit left socially, a bit right economically, and totally against authoritarian nanny-state shenanigans.

I've always felt quite left of centre I think but it's been hard to slot myself into a 'wing'.
I find the term 'Lefties' pretty immature, and as someone has said, it's tantamount to calling all right-wingers bigots and fascists when we know that isn't true either..

I don't like to see wealthy people benefit at the detriment to poorer people, I understand if you work hard, you should be rewarded and I'm all for making money and being comfortable, but those that can't shouldn't be left to rot.
I don't really advocate violence, abhor nuclear weapons and warfare and don't glorify our troops as heroic and although I find it bizarre that in 2016 humans are still so segregated by ideology, national identity and religion, I understand the need for defence.

I think the NHS is a brilliant thing (and I work for them) and I know the private sector offers more efficiency and can see where it plays a useful role, but don't want to lose the NHS and hate to see it attacked by millionaires who won't even notice if it's gone.

I have no problem with foreigners, think immigration on the whole is a good thing, but would like to see stricter controls than the free flow we have now for the sake of simply managing the resources we have, money, healthcare, housing, rather than letting it all implode under unmanageable numbers.

Etc etc. blah blah..

Either far left or far right seems mental to me, too idealistic and unworkable - but I'd prefer to err on the side that doesn't wish harm on people if it has better outcomes for them. That doesn't do much for society as a whole :/

This post is probably the only one of this forum I've read and actually agreed with.

There are idiot left wingers just as there are idiot right wingers. Problem is, the voice of the reasoned left is largely being drowned out by morons at the moment. The Corbyn movement is one big circle-jerk by a relatively small group of people who have no interest in understanding views that don't align with their own, and the Lib Dems have disappeared in to obscurity.

We'll see how small the group actually is over time.

BTW tory's are in meltdown over the disability benefits and Europe, couldn't happen to a nice bunch.
