"Rest breaks - a break during your working day
If you're an adult worker (that is, over 18), you'll normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you're expected to work for more than six hours at a stretch
"

its 6 hours now but not fully sure if it covers retail as it says

"Exceptions to the regulations
......you're working in an industry with busy peak periods, like agriculture, retail or tourism " does that mean time like xmas and new years and other holiday/sales? but 6 hours apply normal working day?

A 20 min break every 6 hours? Wow, that's a bit tight. I honestly expected it to be a lot more often than that. Every time I hear things like this it makes the prospect of leaving the forces and getting a real job less and less apealing.

Goodness you lot are wimps, if your busy 6 hours can fly past without really noticing it, if your sitting about bored I would agree 6 hour would seem like a long time.

6 Hours?! So much for health and safety then, people would be collapsing after 6 hours in jobs like nursing.

Ha, on my 8 hour shift yesterday I got about 15 minutes break, chucked some food down me and went back to the ward. Most days I can easily go 6 hours until my break and often don't sit down in that time. Many nurses on busy wards (a&e) can do a 12.5 hour shift without a break, we are supposed to get 30 minutes on an 8 hour and 1 hour (plus a 15 minute tea break) on a 12.5 hour though. You get used to it but I am pretty dead after a busy day!

Doing what? Are the breaks paid or unpaid? If unpaid do you have the option of forgoing them to be paid? What do you do with all that break time, I would get bored!

I get a single hours break doing a 9 hour day and to be honest I could easily chuck some food down me in the first 10 and then go back to work. I do work primarily sitting in front of computers however, so every couple of hours a tea break is handy to clear the eyes.

Adding HGV driving to the mix, you must take a 30 min break (split into 2 15min breaks if required) after 6 hours duty, regardless of driving, as far as driving is concerned, you must take a 45min break after 4.5hours of driving be it accumulated or in one stint.

This can also be split, i.e. 15min + 30 min, that said, if you do split your driving break, the second period must be a minimum of 30 minutes.

I tend to drive for around 3 hours, take 30min rest, then another 1.5 hours driving and then I have another 30minutes - gets you an extra 15min break without the boss being able to moan about it! :D

i get 10minute break for 4.5hours work, 30mins unpaid dinner for 6hours, 10mins + 30mins for 7hours, 2x 10 mins + 1hour(unpaid) for 8+hours, i work in retail, its naff :(

I havent had a lunch hour in 10 years. I normally get 10 minutes while the child I look after sits in his chair waiting to go back to school with me.
