Legality of "foreign" plates

dont think they look that bad myself...
They don't even look like German plates though. Believe you me, from someone that has spent a good part of their life in Germany, they are laughable, especially when the rears are yellow. Why pretend a car is something that it isn't?

umm, theyre just 'german' style as far as i care. As has already been said, they are far nicer than the obnoxious standard UK ones.

and, to my knowledge, VW is german ? o_O

Yes VW is German, but a British registered RHD Golf is not a German registered car. Sorry, but as I said - from someone who has spent a good part of my life living in Germany I always let out a little chuckle when I see psuedo-Deutsch plates, especially the yellow rear ones which bear no resemblance to a German plate at all. It's just my opinion though so enjoy. :)

I think they look pretty smart, but only on certain cars. The Golfs in Wayn0r's image looks quite good, the number plates look much better than the boring generic UK ones.

The only style of number plate that I really hate are the ones with overly stupid fonts on. Seriously, they just look pants.

Erm if people want to do that they'll it anyways - they do currently as well

Yes but it's currently illegal. You appear to be suggesting that we allow people to do whatever they want as long as the font is the right size. Clearly a very silly suggestion as some fonts are virtualy unreadable.

I really don't understand the fascination with foreign number plates. It's just a unique identifier for your car. It doen't make it any quicker or handle better so whats the point?

No but more importantly they look absolute crap.

French/German/Spanish whatever plates = new lexus lights.
I disagree. Black and silver classic plates appear to be the new Lexus lights. Someone must have figured out that speed cameras don't appear to see them very well ;)

Is this just a brittish thing?

I can't see how uk plates are obnoxious, and i believe German plates are made in that way (metal plates in a plastic holder) as they confiscate plates after an incident.

Ahh so thats why my brother-in-law shot through a speed camera (when taking me to my wedding in his Carrera) just laughed - Guernsey registered Porsche with silver on black plates :)

Also arn't plates assigned to you, so when you change car you keep the plate? (In Germany)

They look daft.

Whats particularly ironic is given the stigma imported cars have (ie, Euro imports rather than EU spec cars) which leads to reduced value, its rather amusing people are now trying their best to pretend their car was registered in Germany. It just looks silly becuase it's nothing like an actual German plate.

You can keep the plate if you want, but a lot of times it goes with the car to save hassle. It depends what you are doing really.

No your right it doesn't look anything like how it should!

a friend of mine has a set on his golf R32 and they are the closest to foreign plates i have seen, he had them made in Belgium when he was over there in his lorry.

BT;52 ABC (The ; being little stickers for that country). Looks pretty cool but its pretty obviouls he's just bought the plates and stuck them on.
