Just received this apparently from 02 but the e-mail and web addresses say 02-mail.co.uk (I won't put the link as someone is bound to use it).

You ordered some free SIMs in January. It turns out that a small number of the SIMs we sent out were faulty. And yours may have been one of them. If you did get a SIM that didn't work, we're really sorry. That's why we're offering you this opportunity to replace them - and send you more for free.

To check if any of your SIMs are faulty, click on the SIM Checker link below. You'll need to order your replacement SIMs by Thursday 2 March.

Does anyone know anything about this?

First question is did you order some sims from O2? Secondly how are they faulty, just try them, if they work then it isn't a problem if they don't then you have a faulty sim so just wait for the next time they are free. I wouldn't bother with the link.

I'm asking if you actually ordered them because I keep getting emails from both Paypal and JP Morgan Chase bank telling me my account is being abused which is odd since I don't have an account with either of them ;)

I did order sims but I didn't want to visit the site without knowing if it was legit. I guess the only way to know for sure is have a look.

Is it just me, or is the overall tone of the email rather more casual than what you'd expect from a company? Things like "It turns out" and "We're really sorry"... normally you'd see "It has come to our attention" and "We apologise for", no?

Also, I'm fairly sure o2-mail is not generally used by employees - all the addresses I've come across of o2 people end with @o2.co.uk.

PS. This just in - linky

Still think it's genuine?

PS. there are a number of interesting reads if you google o2-mail.co.uk as well.

I thought it looked fine to begin with, but then again. When I look at the SIM Checker webpage, it looks absolutely pointless and just redirects you to the Freesim page to get new ones.

Is there anything they can do with the serial numbers?

funny as you can put any random number in there and still get

"Your SIM is fine

Rest assured, when you give this SIM to your friend or put it in your phone it will work."

If it is a scam its a strange one! what can they do with a load of serial numbers?!

i entered one of the sim cards i havent opened yet.
after i entered it i thought it was dodgy....:(
can they do anything with the serial number???
