Is it 5:4?

Just because the native resolution is 1280 x 1024 doesn't mean it is 5:4 ratio because I think some panels these days have non-square pixels...

Most standard LCD monitors are 5:4. All have square pixels.

All it is, I have a 20" widescreen Dell. (2005FPW) and that's 30.8cm in height.

I'm buying these two 17s for either side, but don't want them to be too small or tall sitting next to it.

don't you just want the viewable bits to be as close as possible anyway? with my VP171s and VX2025wm the viewable is pretty much 270mm on both but the bezel on the VX is about twice the size of the VP's but it still looks great. I'd be super happy if I could pick up another VP171s for cheap, but it's not gonna happen I don't think, really old.

No, not having monitors the same size, or near enough would get damn annoying, wether or not the screen size is the same, the different bezel sizes would create an illuision that its bigger/smaller.

Such is the life of a perfectionist.

Tell me about it, the one inch of extra bezel I have on my other TFT drives me mad.

I've contemplated sawing it off before so they're level. :o

If the different bezel annoys you, why not make a mask from card which hides the bezels on both monitors?

Then you can use anything you like, assuming the panel is the same size.

I don't own a crystal ball. I already own a Dell 20" 2005FPW how did I know that at some point I was going to get two more Dells to sit either side of it?

If I was buying 3 brand new monitors and not keeping my old one this thread wouldn't of even been made would it?

Or I could be normal and buy a monitor that has the same — or very close to — panel height. ;)

Not sure on how the OP Wants it set up but, main screens with Portrait orientated screens on the side at the same height look pretty good and I imagine pretty useful.
