Lenovo Edge E520

I'll have to look on CPU-Z when I get home and see what it says the part number is. As long as I get that part number I should be able to use dual channel. Is there anyway you can check if memory is running in dual channel mode?

edit: google states its M471B5273DH0-CH9 and costs £20 for a4GB DIMM, if that's the case I'll get it :)

Job done.

The part number doesn't have to be the same in order to get dual channel...

You don't need official memory. You think lenovo is bad HP was charging something like £135 for 4GB in mine.

I doubt it. The price from HP directly for 4Gb for the ProBooks is around £20 (still expensive). The reason you might have seen it as £135 is because that module partnumber no longer exists and has been superseeded :)

Got the part number for RAM: M471B5273CH0-CH9. £18.49 ;)

About to install Steam and see how Super Street Fighter 4 AE runs. Will post benchmark results.

Street Fighter 4 AE Benchmark:

1366x768, everything on High except Motion Blur. particles Middle, 2x Filtering but NO Antialiasing I get 85fps :) If I switch on Antialiasing the FPS dips to 45.

This was using the AMD 6630m GPU. With the intel HD3000 I was getting 45fps, so the AMD is more than twice as powerful! The only issue I had was actually getting the game to run using the AMD GPU not Intel, in the end had to change the switchable graphics option to manual. So now when gaming I have to manually change the GPU rather than replying on the software to do it for me. Also noticed the i5 CPU his 3Ghz as I have the power setting set to performance, good to see Intel Turbo Boost working :). Going to try FIFA 12 now, if that runs at 60fps on similar settings I'll be well chuffed!

EDIT: The AMD 6630m is 'mSATA capable' what does that mean?

Played FIFA 12 on High with no AA and it ran at 65fps, dipping tto 45fps some times. I notices a lot of stuttering so I installed Afterburner Beta 10 and set the framerate limiter to 59. The game runs smoother but still stutters. Will try reducing the graphics to Medium.

I did notice Afterburner showing DirectX9 was in use, I need to check to see if DirectX11 is installed on the laptop. Maybe this will let me play at 60fps.

Just remember that although the 6630 is a good card, it is only mid table class 2 so don't expect too much from it. It does seem to hold its own though and you are getting some decent results there. I think you can get a ati 6650 in some of the business notebooks but as far as business computing goes the ati 6630 is gaming luxury lol. I have an ati 5470 in mine which does the job better than the integrated HD3000 cards etc but is really only happy playing older games.

I am impressed with the SSF4:AE benchmark, not so much FIFA12 though. I think it's because I have DirectX9 installed and not 11.

The battery life on 'Energy Saver' mode is amazing, I got 7 hours out of a full charge (browsing the net, downloading games via Steam/Origin, youtube. Although I was using Ethernet and not wireless).

Something I noticed though was under energy saver the CPU very rarely went to 2.5Ghz even when opening applications. The cpu is set to variable state in the lenovo power options aswell, maybe the energy saveer profile is stoppng it hitting 2.5Ghz???

You should be able to tweek battery life further. I run my Probook on a 5% minimum CPU and 10% maximum CPU usage. Still powers everything I need (i3-380m) and lasts forever. Well about 4-5 hours.

Yeah but I found when my CPU was in energy saver mode it was a bit sluggish. Opening chrome took about 5 seconds where as at full speed it opens instantly. Also loading applications takes noticeably longer.

I want the CPU to go to 2.5Ghz when I need it (such as launching applications and the such) and then go to idle (for me idle is 800Mhz according to CPU-Z). Intel Speedstep is enabled in the BIOS so it must the Lenovo Power Profiles that need changing. Will mess around some more tonight.

Not anymore, will do Dirt 3 and maybe DoW2:Retribution. No gonna bother with BF3 as I won't be playing it on the laptop.

Gotta say though it's just so so very nice to use :)

I'm struggling to see where you're finding this at the price you quoted? manufacturer's site is giving me less options. (i.e. I can only see it with 4GB Ram and windows 7 pro). Looking for a 13-14" laptop myself with a discrete graphics card. Problem it, when you get to premium rate laptops, you never have the option of getting a mechanical hard drive. They're always SSD. I already have an SSD to swap in so don't want to pay for another one. These lenovo's caught my eye because they seem to offer almost exactly what I need.
