Lenovo P2 and Android Update Questions

Hi,

The first thing to say is I have just got my first ever smartphone so apologies if I ask any stupid questions.

I've purchased a UK Lenovo P2 from ebay (originally from 3) and have read many comments about updating to Nougat 7.0 - the device is on version 6.0.1, security patch 1st October 2016.

I know there are a load of Android updates since then, but when I go into check via System Update it says the software is up to date.

Questions:

1. Who is responsible for providing any OTA updates whether full version or patch - I know the device was purchased from 3 originally, but is it Lenovo or 3 who does this?
2. How does the process work - is the phone configured to go to a specific server to check for updates?
3. Should my P2 be on a later release of 6.0.1?

I am thinking I stay away from Nougat until its officially released in the UK....assuming that i going to happen.

Thanks for the help.

I think the update was pulled as it was buggy but it's anyone's guess as to what's happening with it now. FWIW, I'm on the same software and patch version as you.

I updated my lenovo p2 without messing about anyways here is proof.

It's an aside to the main thread topic but the Moto G5 I bought in July has had no software updates and is still on the Security Patch from January 2017 (seems relevant seeing as Motorola were bought by Lenovo). Great phone for the cheap price I paid but not receiving any updates is a real negative. In hindsight I should have purchased the Nokia 6 but wanted a new phone at the time.

giving this ago as fitbit have broken the app and say the phone isnt supported, despite it working fine since i got it. see if the update will fix it.

i wish nokia would make a slightly improved clone. not getting updates sucks and is something ill be very much aware off next time i buy a phone.
trouble is large battery phones are essentially non existent.

T'is why I bought a Nokia yesterday. Turned it on and it installed the last 6 monthly security patches in order.

Miss my WP10 phone already, but at least I can trust Nokia to keep things up to date.

If they made a Nokia with a large battery I would be all over it. Unfortunately there's just nothing out there compared to the P2.

I wonder why the French aren’t suing Lenovo for deliberately obsoleting devices by not updating them to the latest software version?

Probably because the P2 works in exactly the same way on day 365 as it does on day 1 (bar slight battery degradation). But the French are suing apple because their iPhones work far slower on day 365 than they do on day 1 due to the deliberate and secret actions of Apple.
