I've just watched this film tonight, after great recommendations from my uncle.

I sat down, turned the lights off put it in and I really didn't know what to expect from this film. I thought it might just be another passively watched action film but I was really brought into the storyline and the whole film was just stunning. I think that the fact it wasn't just 'action action action goal' like some hollywood style films made me enjoy it more, the character driven storyline was amazing.

I thought that Jean Reno was an excellent actor in this film, convincing and someone I will now imagine if I ever have to recall a hitmans appearance. The young Natalie Portman, who you might just have thought to be an annoying kid played a great role, this was her first film and I'm sure this really set her off in her acting career.

Throughout this films decent visuals and themed score I can't really name much that was out of place, although I thought that the end resembled Delicatessen, a french film I've seen, which was weird.

Overall just a great film; I really recommend it to anyone! :)

i'm going to get my head eaten off here, but i wasnt that into it. story didnt suck me in, but i have a feeling that's because i was expecting it to be better than i found it. my other half loved it though, so that's something.

Yeh Sic, I can take your point exactly, but as I had no expectations of it I was just watching for how it was like and I did enjoy it, due to many different aspects. I seem to like quite a lot of films I watch though so I guess I'm not the best critique, although I was in the mood for a film tonight as I had nothing to do!

I can easily see why you're other half liked it due to the emotional involvement. :)

Luc Besson is still considering making a sequel based on a grown up Mathilda taking over the role of the hitman. Natalie Portman is pretty much confirmed to reprise her role if or when it does get made.
Just hope it's not a 'La Femme Nikita' clone, as the first is one of my favourite films.

One of my favourite films, and one of the first and most expensive films I bought on DVD - £27 for the Japanese "version integrale" as it was the only way to watch the whole film at the time.

Did you watch the theatrical release, or the extended cut?

If it was the theatrical release do yourself a favour and get hold of the extended cut, as it fills in a lot of gaps in the storyline and makes the story even better.

Agreed, great film.

I think you do need to watch it out of the blue with no expectations though. I lent it to a mate at work after telling him how great it was, he wasn't convinced ;)

That movie always makes me feel ackward. I just want to do things to Natalie Portman because I know she is legal now but of course not in that movie. I am no pedaphile just a portmanaphile. hehe Great movie.

are you trying to say i'm emotionless?? :(;)
noo man, but women are emotionally driven, where as men are logical, so this would have reached out to her like that. :p

And Chaapa'ai errrrr, I guess I sort of know what you're getting at, when she says 'he's my lover' that sounds a bit wrong.

Oh and I watched this version (below), yet I'm not sure if it's the uncut or not.

That's the cut version :( iirc the full/extended version wasn't released over here/on R2?

Brilliant film, one of my all time faves.

The original script was supposed to have nudity in it and deepen the relationship between both Leon and Mathilda in the original script mathilda was supposed to be 14 not 12 years old as in the film. Natalie Portmans parents said no to the script so he rewrote it.

Got the original script if anyone is interested.
Original Leon Script

definately get the uncut version. it is so much better....

i just think it is one of the all time great films. the story is one that does drag you in and it doesn't just promote the violence of killing as one would expect.

i will hope that the sequel is made...

Fantastic film. I remember seeing this, The Big Blue (another Besson classic) and Les Visiteurs within a reasonably short time frame and thinking what a great and versatile actor Reno is.
