Leopard is cooler...

Cooler definitely but as mine has always been virtually silent I can't tell if there is a difference. I have been using Leopard since Saturday and it is very impressive so far. :)

Well I have some news on the opposite side of this.

My MBP went up to 80oC just idling with Safari open, when I was at Uni trying to configure to my network settings.

It idles around 53oC now which is about normal but when it went to 80oC the other day it was quite puzzling.

not sure if i can do this yet. go to leopard due to audio software compatibility.

Same boat here, got it running on my old G4 PowerBook (1.67Ghz 1GB RAM) and it seems much more responsive than I remember it being, although that could be just due to the fact its a clean install.

Just waiting for Digidesign, Waves and Sonnox to confirm full support for Leopard before I update my MBP to Leopard. Probably wont see ProTools support fully until 7.4 is released though.

waiting for digidesign yep!

I thought this was about how cool leopard is/isn't.. I was about to moan that they've got rid of the rounded corners.. which I see as a neat touch..

I'm going to wait a bit until they've sorted out the blue screen issue.

You should never change OS if you rely on the machine for production work.

Same reason I never updated the Mac Pro when a ProTools update was released :)

..It will work, but it's not advised if you run a business on the thing.

I had that! Hasn't done it again tho and i've installed a custom fan thing, 1000RPM minimum @ 40C and under to 6000RPM @ 80C and a graph showing the two points connected up with a line showing the temp/fan speed gradient. Tis quality :)

Its now 55C @ 2513 RPM :)

God I love this thing LOL

Don't forget that when you install Leopard Spotlight needs to completely reindex your hard drive and Time Machine (if you have it enabled) needs to do a complete backup. That could account for the spike in temperatures.

My brother did an upgrade as he had far too much stuff to backup. When he first got into Leopard it was awful. Turns out that Spotlight was reindexing all his PSD/Web Files, Aperture and Final Cut Studio projects. Hammered the **** out of his system.

On the other side of the scale my clean install was as smooth as silk as Spotlight had nothing to do. It then indexed the files as I restored them from my network backup.

Haven't done any tests but my MacBook seems cooler, er, well my legs do!
