There's no acronym there. A heat-seeking missile has nothing to do with HEAT rounds.

There's always acronyms that include the acronym in the acronym.

Like Seat (as in cars, not furniture) and PHP.

Although you're right in that when the acronym is spelt out you say number twice I still think it's ok, and I'm sure there's loads of other examples of the same thing!

As mentioned by jakeke, AWOL is a good one. People have been using it for years as a normal word; the acronym has probably lost it's meaning.
