I've not been watching the more recent flood of comedies on TV, having pretty much stopped watching TV barring a couple of hours a week of Amazon Prime (or, recently, Taboo on iPlayer).

I've heard of stuff that sounds interesting though - shows like Toast of London, Chewing Gum, Flowers, Camping, Bojack Horseman.... are they worth a look?

Of these I have seen Toast of London. Very fond of Matt Berry but I did find it a little hard to get into, may have to try again

Chewing Gum is awful!

toast of london is okay, but its not brilliant.
bojack horseman is very good, but its very dark and won't make you happy.

I can only really recommend shows from before the 80s...

I will say that my ex got me into 'Him & Her'. One of the funniest Sitcoms I've seen in years. Sort of Royal Family-esque in the way it's filmed.

Thought of a couple more I would recommend:
Assy McGee (animated)
Garth Marenghi's darkplace

Chewing Gum is awful!
I've listened to Michaela Coel on a couple of podcasts (Adam Buxton and Scroobius Pip), and thought she was quite funny. So that's kind of why I was fairly keen to check out her show. Opinions, that I've heard, suggest it's somewhat marmite.

Its not obscure depending on the circles you are in, as it is all over recent internet and geek culture but 'Rick & Morty' is probably the funniest and clever animated show in a long while. It easily beat my favourite 'Archer' by a long way.

It depends on the type of humour really. If you are looking for an OTT American pie like sports comedy, Blue Mountain State is disgustingly funny. I would post a scene or clip but i cant think of any which is OCuk appropriate.

15 Storeys High

This as well. Very very good. It's pretty much the British Curb You Enthusiam. Sean Lock is as good as Larry David. Similar to Ideal in terms of moments of surrealism and gritty realism. The episode with Felix Dexter as a Jehovah's witness and the final payoff of the JW thread at the end of that episode is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

Also, have a look at Richard Herrings Leicester Square podcasts on Youtube. Some of these are pretty good if you like the guests.
