Lesson learnt!

So i just spent way over £600 on a new gaming rig (core i5 etc etc).

I bought a Scythe Zipang 2 cooler and fitted it, i thought it went ok.

So i played a couple of games and noticed the temps were going upto around 60c and i thought this was a little weird.

Decided to do a stress test on the CPU last night using prime95 and temps went upto 90c!!!!!!!

Turned it off straight away temps dropped down an instant 30c again, something was seriously wrong!

SOOOOOO, I shut down the PC and take the front and back of the case off and low and behold one side of the cooler has popped out (or I didnt put it on properly!) Put it back in with a bit more thermal paste and run another prime95.

1hour test highest setting not even over 52c

So the lesson here is triple check your coolers are fitted properly or risk flushing a lot of money down the toilet in 2 days!!!

Or don't use push pin cooler again.
worth keeping an eye on your temps - most are fine - but every now and again you get a dodgy push pin, that doesn't lock

I did exactly the same thing with my new rig. When I booted up for the first time it looked fine (and I breathed a sigh of relief) and then it just died. Did this several times with it dying immediately I powered it up. Finally I realised that it was automatically cutting out due to heat build up. Great safety feature!

i always fire it up and leave it running for a bit with the side off to make sure all the fans are working properly.
must admit never had an issue with the push pin setup, but its a lot easier to do with the mobo out of the case to make sure all pins locked in correctly.

Push pin cpu coolers never seemed like a great idea to me!

Pfff, I once forgot to connect CPU fan on one of my older athlon builds and did 8hrs stress test before I realised it was running happily OCed @ around 90c for 8hrs.

Connected cooler and all was fine ; ).

Even tho we get sensitive with all those temps, tbh, the nowadays CPUs are solid enough to handle a lot lot higher temps than the ones advised.

I remember once my friends old pc as well, he was wondering why it was running slow and loud untill we realised the interior is so bulked with dust that the CPU was running around 80c for few months.
