I was playing GTA 5 last night and started to see lots of graphical bugs, they went after a while and I didn't think much of it. I started my pc this morning and it just lights up and and then turns itself off, all within a second or 2. Not long enough to see a display on the monitor.

Now, I'm guessing based on the fact I have 2 x 780ti running that my 850w power supply has died, not had a PSU fail before though so I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

I think I like the thread title. Makes it more fun and positive. :D

Which PSU exactly and what's the rest of the spec?

Well, it's payday. There are worse times for your pc to die :)

The power supply is about 18 months old, Enermax 850 plus bronze (ENM850EWT). The rest of the pc is a slightly overclocked 5820k, 16Gb RAM. I have 4 mechanical drives and 2 SSD'S*attached.

Indeed. :)

Okay, so the 12v (quad-rail) ouput is actually 750W:

With an overclocked 5820K and 2 x 780Ti's it wouldn't be a bad idea to improve on that PSU regardless of whether it's at fault here. If the new PSU solves the problem - bonus. If not, keep playing the guessing game.

The temperature will also have an effect on how much it can output continuously. The best PSUs can output continuously at up to 50C (in some cases over). Can't find a figure for that Enermax but it doesn't seem to be "up there". Just the fact it outputs nowhere near 850W on 12v is a bad sign.

A more modern 850/1000W single rail SuperFlower Leadex or EVGA G2 would be sweet for your rig. Some Seasonics also worth looking at (if their price isn't a stumbling block), and a few Antecs. Corsair not so good in comparison these days unless you go for their most premium units.

as Stulid said, try one card on its own and see if it boots, if it does then try the other card and see if it fails as it might be one of the gpus causing the issue

All sounds good to me, wise advice. Thanks Danny. I'll grab one of the power suppliers you suggested today.

I have removed both video cards Stulid, this time the CPU fan doesn’t even bother to start. The light on the mobo is on. I can't do anything else, as it's at home and i'm at work :(

I knew when I went SLI that my PSU might not be good enough, so i'm not all that annoyed that it might be time to get a better one. And like Danny says, if it's not at fault it eliminates it from the possible issues and I get a power supply that I had been putting off for quite some time. I'll be sure to update as I go, nothing more annoying than people starting these threads and then never reporting back on how the problem was solved.

Couldnt tell you, maybe varies from board manufacture, maybe some beep, maybe some do sod all, maybe some power on+off constantly.

OK, so I tried turning it on this morning after re-seating everything and it all worked fine.

However, given some issues I have had over the past couple of years, the more I think about it the more I think the PSU is acting up. Things like random USB failures and most recently a strange windows message saying that my 5 year old SSD had stopped receiving power for a brief moment. I had put that last one down to the age off the SSD. It's worth noting that the USB issues happened in my old build that has since been completely altered apart from the PSU. They are less frequent now, but I still get them about once a month.

I do now have another problem though... the new power supply is longer than my old one. With the cables plugged into it, I can't fit the side panel of my case on. I'd like a big case, the bigger the better. Anyone got any ideas? The current case is a Raven RV03, which I really liked...

If it's the cables on the right-hand side that are the problem, would it be worth doing a little mod to it so you can keep the case? If on the left it would look ugly, but if the right side is unseen in its normal position, then maybe cut a small hole there for the cable excess.

Otherwise return PSU for smaller model, or what budget for new case? I'd be looking at Phanteks, they are making ace cases.

With that many drives, consider a Silverstone FT02. ** Removed **

The problem with that FT02 case is the same issue I have with the one i'm using, the cabling that goes up the back of the motherboard seems to need more room than what is available. I could do what Danny suggests and mod the case, but to get the room I need i'd end up really messing with it. I don't really want to return the PSU, seems a little harsh on OCUK as I have it all set up and there is nothing wrong with it. Looks like i'll bite the bullet and get a bigger case.

I promise not to moan if the problem ends up not even being the PSU, ill cry inside a little, but not moan.
