not only do they continue to annoy me with the monthly claim that they have sales far greater than any other console manufacturer

but the truth of the matter is, yes more people may buy a wii than any other console - i accept that

but that is just hardware sales - i have played well over 100 games on my xbox and well over 30 on my ps3. [god only knows how many pc titles]
the majority of these being top quality titles which have been produced to a decent/high standard

i cant think of 5 games i would bother with for the nintendo wii
1 zelda
2 mario
3 res... no its not happening

i love reading these corporate propaganda posters from them which would have you believe that everybody's nan is playing Brain Training and doing wii fit on a daily basis

nintendo used to be staple gameplay - the balance of everything that made games good - simplicity mixed with addictivness

the truth of the matter - especially from my negative mindset, is that the Wii sold out due to TOY HYPE at christmas and has no real appeal.
its like 'power rangers' or 'telletubbies' to most people [the people who end us as numbers on these sales claims] - its something that the kids must have but then gets left in a cupboard or sold second hand after a few months of neglect.

lets face it the majority of the general public who got a wii are only waiting for wii sports 2 to come out

EVERY person i know who got a Wii got bored of it very quickly
maybe went back to it for zelda/mario/mariokart then dropped it like a dead weight

why cant they produce some good games for the wii?...
oh yeah - thats right because its a GAMECUBE
dont get me wrong - the gamecube had some A+ titles
but the Wii shouldnt really be riding off that wave - aside from the controllers - i cant see what has changed hardware wise - but the software seems to have this mindset of "massmarket appeal means we can make a quick sale to joe public and his dumb kids"

not "lets make games people will talk about in 15 years time"
like i do - about goldeneye - and i love goldeneye :p

its sad to see so much potential get wasted
i honestly believe the wii would beat this gen hands down if the games were all of a better standard and more innovative than beach sports, red steel or whatever
i would happily take that over decent online functionality

come on nintendo... if you are showing off about selling so many consoles then perhaps consider investing the profits back into development of software to use with the damn machine!

in nintendo's defence, the ds is pretty decent...

BUT bringing out the NINTENDO DSi less than six months after i purchase an original DSlite for my girlfriend is quite frankly taking the urine

------------------------------

feel free to slate me - im just angry/upset that nintendo havent done more to bring us all a better experience this gen

awaits reply from kreeee ;):D

How many good 1st party games do sony and ms have out on there consoles?

Right now Nintendo IS the only one making good games for the Wii while every one else just makes crap for it, i think you will find out that most of the 50 or so game you like for the 360 and ps3 are 3rd party games.

So i think you should ranting about 3rd partys complete lack of interest rather than ranting to nintendo.

I know this will upset a few people, but one of the main reasons we're not seeing the Wii used in a way that it's competing against the 360 or the PS3 is the power that the Wii has.

I completely agree with the age old adage that "Graphics don't mean good gameplay", but whether you like it or not... Graphics do mean good developers and a catalogue of games that are interesting to people over the age of 10.

I can't help but feel that if the Wii was capable of doing what a 360/PS3 could do visually with the same frame rates we'd see more "grown up" titles on it.

We'd even see more ports from other consoles with altered control schemes (when in all honesty, this is all a lot of us want anyway...) make FIFA play like FIFA on the 360/PS3 but let me play with the Wii mote.

Release Dead Space on it, put some good survival horrors... some decent sports titles, a proper Star Wars: Force Unleashed would have been brilliant on the Wii... but that isn't going to happen.

It's bugged me that Nintendo have gone down the childish route with the Wii because it's been gathering dust on next to my TV for along while now.

it was more of a rant of dissapointment rather than anger tbh

i agree with your points nikebee

XPE - i know what you mean about 3rd party games - but they still have to get the seal of approval
its getting like the ps2 when crazy frog racer came out!

Come on the ps2 was never as powerful as the gamecube or the xbox but dev + pubs always found time and money to build games for it.

Well there was a time when nintendo did do that and 3rd party went to other consoles.

The Wii is a gimmick and one that wore off VERY quickly.

I kept if for a year. During that time I only bought 8 games for it as they were the only ones of any interest at the time. I then traded it in and bought a PS3 which I have had for 11 months so far and have owned 18 games up till now.

I agree that its a Gamecube in differant clothing but i know plenty of people who loved playing their wii, but they are not games and dont really want to buy an xbox because they only play a few games a year.

But Nintendo have always been about bringing in the money, its what every company aims for. They are a lot smarter. Just look at the PS3 (has it yielded a profit yet?).
, Nintendo should have cheaper products as they have always been about Value, considering you can get a 360 for £100 now they should really bring the price of it down to a more competative level, but hey they must be selling like hotcakes because its still launch price.

Nintendo clearly stated that they wanted to open up the gaming market to more than just the typical grunts that play XBox or Playstation. Nintendo always said they weren't solely aiming their console at the sort of people that consider gaming achievements more important than personal hygiene or establishing relationships with people of the opposite sex. Instead, they wanted to open up the gaming market to a much wider audience, one that includes wives, mothers, fathers, grandparents, etc... who wouldn't normally be interested in gaming.

I'd say it's almost impossible to deny that they have succeeded in this respect. I've lost count of the number of articles I read in the mainstream press talking about non-gamers picking up a Wiimote and instinctively being able to play Wii Sports.

However, it's not just the innovative control system that has attracted these new gamers - it's also the price point. I think they priced it slightly higher than they should have (£150 would have been ideal, imo) but even £179 was clearly low enough to make countless people buy one on impulse... once they were in stock after the months and months of shortages that is ;)

It's not rocket science, however... if you add expensive components then you bump up the purchase price. Increase the purchase price too high and you begin to alienate exactly the audience you're trying to target. That's why the Wii isn't as technically advanced as the 360 or PS3 - simple as.

Nintendo stated that they weren't interested in Hi-Def graphics because the vast majority of TVs in use are still only standard def. This might be hard for a forum full of geeks like us lot to grasp, but the vast majority of the world don't have HD tellies yet.

I'd love the Wii to have more memory, bigger HD, HD graphics, etc... but I can fully understand why Nintendo took the approach they took. I'm sure the successor to the Wii will be much more technically advanced - and those non-traditional gamers will be much more likely to pay more for such a console now that they've experienced what gaming is all about.

Nintendo have, imo, played things excellently this generation. They need to ensure games are still developed from 3rd party developers, and they really screwed up with their stock levels 2 years running (which was ridiculous really). However, they realised they couldn't just compete on the "more polygons, more FPS, more bling" level, so they attacked it from a completely different angle - and have done a stonkingly good job of it.

ZOMG!!!11!

How dare they release an updated console within 6 months of you having bought one of the earlier models?!? ...and without even consulting you about it! Never mind the fact that the DS Lite has been out since '06, that's not important at all. The sheer audacity of them!

You say that about it but I have always felt that the perception of Nintendo as a kiddy brand has always been quite accurate. The Gamecube had very few games that were aimed at people over a certain age. The N64 had a few, Goldeneye most obviously, but still lacked proper adult games.

I completely agree with the OP, I have never had even the slightest interest in getting a Wii, they are a laugh to play for an hour or two but then I get bored of the rudimentary games and decide to go back to my 360 or PC. The problem for Nintendo is that while the games market has come a long, long way, most 3rd party companies are comprised of hardcore/avid gamers who love what they do. Therefore, they want to release on a platform that can boast great visuals and good gameplay. While the Wii may be able to do the latter it cannot claim to have very good visuals, and games often lack the depth, feeling and emotion that they have on the other platforms. So most of the 3rd party developers are still more interested in backing the 360 and PS3. I completely respect what Nintendo have been able to do with the Wii in bringing in non-gamers, but I think it is dumbing down a market that mostly wants to see true games like Halo, Call of Duty, etc.
