lets rant about: nintendo

I think the Wii is great, it just doesn't have the support of the other consoles.

I do need to get hold of Smash Bros. but I just can't afford it at the moment.
My Wii games list:-
Wii Sports
Zelda
Mario Galaxy
RE4
Metroid 3
Strikers Charged (good laugh with friends)
Add to that loads of VC games and all my Gamecube games and it get a fair bit of play, but mainly with friends.

RE4 and Zelda were good games on the gamecube, the only thing that siginificantly changed was the control scheme.

Childish rant
lol, you seem to be of the misinformed opinion that Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo make games and consoles for your amusement. They make consoles to make money, the Wii makes more money than the Xbox and/or Playstation 3, therefore Nintendo did things right.

Or would you rather Nintendo just made a console the same as the Xbox/PS3?

the Wii sold out and has no real appeal
I assume based on your rant that you have a Wii, therefore saying it has no "real" appeal is not only unfounded but completely illogical. If you don't then still it's unfounded 20 million people didn't accidentally buy the Wii. They didn't get home with their tesco shopping, find a Wii in there and just scratch their head and say "oh I don't remember buying that".

Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo do make consoles for our amusement, as well as to make money.

I cant disagree with anything the op says, the wii has been a huge letdown for the gamer, so much potential, and so more much potential crippled by using old technology.

Got to love how blind some people are on here :)

that wasnt a dig - that was merely me pointing out that you know a lot more about nintendo than most on here and would doubtless set my op straight

having a bit of a laugh and a joke
you know... what people do in the real world when they are not online constantly slating peoples opinions of games on a forum

i can honestly say, i have never seen a post by you on here that isnt putting someone/their opinion down.

never mind:rolleyes:

Shame there console has been ruined by loads of 3rd party carp

exactly

if it wasnt entertaining it wouldnt sell

what i am getting at is the longevity of the entertainment factor on the wii

and im just dissapointed because i personally wanted it to fulfill its potential

I have a PS3/PS2 and a Wii, and although I play the PS3 a lot my girlfriend wouldn't touch it, it just doesn't have games that appeal to her. So it does work both ways, the nintendo may not appeal to everyone, but neither does the PS3/360.

My girlfriend loves playing on Mariokart/Big Brain Academy/Wii Sports/Mario & Sonic's Olympics. These are games that are aimed at being a bit of multiplayer fun and dont tie you up for hours. You can pick the game up and play it, just what some people want from a console.

If you don't like it that way then a Wii obviously isn't for you, I'm sorry - move on! :)

i get what you are saying completley
and i did have a few games like that for my wii
whilst being fun i did feel a little bad that i was paying the same rrp for a casual pick up game as i was for a title such as mgs4 or gtaIV

even the games for the wii like zelda, smg, and RE4 + okami [although i did thrash the last two on my ps2] that are designed to be played for a while, were good - but didnt see anything on the horizon that matches these titles

especially when two of them are just recycled games essentially

I bought a Wii as I wanted something my wife would play, otherwise gaming would be something I had to do in isolation. The Wii fits the bill perfectly as it has less busy graphics and the games are more about general motions with the controller as opposed to complex combinations of buttons on the other games consoles.
If I'd been buying one just for me, I'd probably have gone for a 360, but for family gaming, the Wii is ideal.
Add to the mix that the party type of games on the Wii favour the casual gamer, meaning you can get everyone involved at parties, where it is far harder to do that on other consoles.

It has a particular purpose, but one that it serves very well in my opinion.

I just had a quick look at the christmas release schedule, there appears to be no AAA nintendo produced titles coming out, there is literally nothing worth buying that appeal to me before christmas, and there hasnt been since super smash.

6) Focusing on hardcore users didn’t work last time around.

It’s true that Nintendo never loses money on hardware, but it does sometimes lose market share. While Sony’s PlayStation proved to be a pretty convincing victor over Nintendo 64, the really brutal battle was reserved for the next generation, with Nintendo losing out to both Microsoft and Sony, as exclusives dried up, third-party support disappeared, and the sweet-natured purple box that was GameCube suddenly seemed very out of step with the times. With its competitors ready to invest in even more expensive technology and continue the fight over a dwindling, critical, and often highly erratic hardcore market, Nintendo surely needed very little further temptation to explore where else it could take the industry. It was only when the company made a conscious decision to strike out on its own terms that things turned around, and it’s hard to escape the impression that Nintendo will never again make the mistake of letting its competitors decide the rules of engagement.

Come on the ps2 was never as powerful as the gamecube or the xbox but dev + pubs always found time and money to build games for it.

Whilst I see your point here the power difference between the PS2 and Xbox / GC was no where near the difference in power between the 360/PS3 and the Wii.

Personally I have no urge to buy a Wii. There are no games on it that interest me in the slightest and I find no enjoyment by standing in front of my tv wagging a stick about especially when my rabbit is looking at me very oddly. :p

Nintendo in house devs do seem to have completely disappeared :(

The Wii doesnt really appeal to me, although ive had some fun on them round my mates houses. However this doesnt detract from the fact that i still regard nintendo to be one of the best companies in the games industry

They may have fell short on the n64 and gamecube (to the masses, but not me funnily enough!), but I cant help but be pleased for the success they have made with the Wii and DS.

The DS is a fantastic little hand held. My nephew is 8 and him and all his friends have a DS, they dont talk about PSPs, and when i play on the DS, on games like Advance Wars and Phoenix Wright, I get totally enthralled :)

The xbox and ps3 cater for the more hardcore of us gamers, but I dont think we have any reason to rant about them. Nothing should dictate which part of the market they aim for. Next gen hardware costs a lot of money, and from a business perspective nintendo have done phenomenally well.

The DS AAA titles have dried up as well, i went into a high street store last week looking for a couple of handheld games, the only thing in the top 20 on DS that held any appeal, was mario bros, and ive had that since i got the thing.

I think it's been confirmed that a Wii2 is coming out. With enhanced graphics... so they say. It would've been nice if the old classic games on the market was free. Emulators and roms will do me fine.

I played all the way through zelda, didn't get super mario galaxy. :( I do have guitar hero 3 and that's all I use the wii for.

Guitar hero 4 will be coming out for the wii and other platforms soon so that will keep me using the wii. All I can say though is nintendo can only go forward surely. And btw does anyone know if street fighter IV is coming out for the Wii?
