Lets talk about Sofas!

We had our 2 sofas built to spec. Cost a hell of a lot more than your normal warehouse crap, but they are like a bespoke suit or custom car. You can modify them when you need to. New spring, new bit of cloth on the arm due to TV watching head sweat etc :D

We bought our last sofa's from DFS, but they were a returned item that was being stored in the back, original price was £4k, we paid £1.4k. Absolutely nothing wrong with them, just the original buyers weren't happy with the gap where the two halfs met (reclining sofas). Had them about 3 years now and they still look as new.

I believe most DFS stores have a clearance section out of sight of the rest of the store, stocked with returned sofa, or sofa that people order then pull out.

I know someone who works in the customer service area for DFS/Harveys/couple of others.

I will NEVER buy a sofa from them after hearing how they treat customers when it goes wrong!!! Sofa not delivered after 12 months? Bit longer sir.... got rid of your old sofa based on our promise dates? That was stupid sir.... lol

Try Nabru

Can build your own and design it. Quality is very good, they are solid.

I have a Nabru sofa, they are good for the money - but they aren't as nice (aesthetically) as a normal sofa. Looking forward to when we move in to our new place and replacing our Nabru.

I'm happy with the aesthetic looks, they aren't as spongy and soft as DFS etc. but those kind of sofa's look good for a few months, and certainly won't last as long as the Nabru sofas

Another plus for Sofaworks.

Much better experience that the other stores, and nearly everything we looked at seemed to be good quality.

There was no 'sale', but the prices were in line with the other stores from my perspective.

The cheap rubbish they sell is just that. Cheap rubbish.

We have a 3 and 2 seater sofa from them. They weren't cheap but they are good quality.

You can spend a fortune. Have a look at gplan for expensive.

If you are thinking about having kids they'll ruin them so factor that into your choice.

Kids do ruin them, instead of paying 3k I wish we got a reclaimed one from the council!

Can't really recommend DFS. Had a fabric sofa from them around three years ago supposedly a three seater but with two large cushions which soon started sagging. They made a great show of how you need to plump them up on a daily basis but this just to conceal the fact there is little to no firm material in the stuffing to bolster them up. With the frame being quite low, eventually felt like we were sitting on the floor.

So end of last year, donated to local social furniture charity and replaced with a two seater La-Z-Boy. Yes, overpriced and slightly over-rated, but comfortable, correct height off the ground and great to kick back and recline when a movie's on.

Ours our from Selfridges. Very comfy, built like a tank and apart from some wear on the leather due to improper care they are as good as new. But not cheap!

Bought a 3 seater from Furniture Village and was pleased with the build quality, cost around £1200 took 12 weeks to arrive and spent 3 years paying it off.

Bought an exact match 3 seater (same model) from a factory outlet that sells cancelled orders etc for £350 cash and delivered the same day.

What does that tell you about sofas...

Whatever you decide I highly recommend getting the dimensions of the sofa and marking it out on your floor. Some of the ones from DFS are monsters.
