Lets Talk Concrete Blocks

Keep an eye on gumtree for blocks, doors and windows etc. For can buy for peanuts compared to new.

Have bought thermalite blocks for £1 each delivered conpared to £2.80 collected.

Picked up 3year old windows for £15 and french doors for free!

Maybe worth picking up a second hand trailer and then selling it when finished.

What you doing with the old soil you dig out? You'll be amazed how much you need to remove. I managed to off load mine on gumtree but I had to deliver it.
 
There's a farm and some woodland down from the house. Was hoping to dump it there :D

EDIT - Ooh, that google maps has just shown me there's a timber place called Hoghton Timber. They make solid oak trusses which look amazing. Along with stocking loads of different hard woods.

My current timber merchant only stocks redwood so this is a great result! Just look at that range!

The farmer will probably take it as they always have holes or ditches they are wanting to fill.

I sourced my sand and type 1 from a local quarry. Was about about £25inc vat a tonne and you can get as little as you like. Even a bucket full. They fill the trailers for you but you'll have to fill the car boot yourself.

For footings I did mine 18" by 18" with 10" type 1 and 8" concrete. I mixed all the concrete myself in a 60 litre cement mixer. I did 2 tonne in a day a few times with no problems.
