Ah, I guess that's reasonable, given there are various offers and resellers and someone booking last minute versus 8 months away.i don't think anyone wants to hear they got ripped off and could have got it for half price by doing whatever![]()

I can help you out with a flat discount if you are looking at Royal Caribbean or Celebrity, drop me a dm.Have some interest in maybe doing a cruise, the only one we previously did was around the carribean on Carnival triumph maybe 20 years ago.
Scanned the last 5 or 6 pages and see loads of people confirming they've booked a cruise or in fact multiple. Is there some etiquette that says no one ever says what they paid for the cruise ? as I saw none reported. Plenty of reports on how much drinks packages or individual drinks costs, but nothing on the cost of a any of the cruises.
Would help someone like me set a reasonable expectation for the required budget

Always the case, if you are flexible and don't really care about the level or location of a cabin, there will always be last minute deals.Well I just learned, like most things on planet earth, supply and demand changes prices.
The same cruise we booked a while back is nearly. £ 300 cheaper with a much superior cabin on offer.
For the price difference we are looking at a what they call, executive room at 40m2.... As opposed to the shoebox we got.
I don't think I'll ever pre-book so far in advance again and be a bit flexible.
It's only small money in the big scheme of life but I just hate myself for always hyping myself up![]()

Just going to miss you. Heading out on the 15th Nov on Arvia.Interesting as we're due on Arvia to do the Caribbean beginning of December, not great for the deceased man's family.

Aah that's a shame, update me on how it went pleaseJust going to miss you. Heading out on the 15th Nov on Arvia.
What nationality is your wife as I don't believe British Nationals need any visas (you would need an ESTA if the ship stopped at St Thomas as it's classed as America)? We're doing the same at the end of Jan
Having an absolute f"£$king nightmare though with getting visa information for my wife. P&O fobbed me off to CIBT to ask visa questions, and all they do is cut and paste sections of their own website back to me - which are totally at odds with the websites of the countries in question.
(as a side note, how dare both Saint-Martin and Sint-Maarten both exist on the same island and have different governments and different visa requirements! - and useless CIBT was giving me info for Saint-Martin despite having the cruise number, which would clearly tell them Sint-Maarten if they had the slightest bit of competence or initiative!!!) ok /rant.
She's South African - 7 months away from ILR and citizenship and all these problems going away!Aah that's a shame, update me on how it went please

Aaah dude that's harshShe's South African - 7 months away from ILR and citizenship and all these problems going away!
As I read it, we'll be ok. Everything I've found that ISN'T on CIBT's site says that there are exemptions for cruise passengers staying less than 48 hours, or exemptions for people carrying multiple entry visas for either the USA or UK - both of which she has.Aaah dude that's harsh
Yeah, sometimes they have that much waffle it's difficult to know what's good information and what's not, how did you book was it through a travel agent or with P&O themselves? As I read it, we'll be ok. Just would have been nice for someone actually in the business of travel facilitation to give a definitive answer. I mean fair enough that P&O can't be expected to have someone who knows the rules for every country, but I certainly expected more from the people they referred me to! Then again, P&O agents also check your passports/visas when you check into the ship. They must have some kind of checklist/knowledge of what they're looking for somewhere in the institution, right? Otherwise, what are they actually checking?
P&O themselves (while on a previous cruiseYeah, sometimes they have that much waffle it's difficult to know what's good information and what's not, how did you book was it through a travel agent or with P&O themselves?
)That's bad mate, surely they had the information to hand whilst you were bookingP&O themselves (while on a previous cruise)
Start off a bit smaller, that way you're investing less money and time in something that you may not like. Try something like a cruise to portugal and spain from Southampton. Gives you a few sea days, as well as 4 or 5 shore days in different cities (which for me is the benefit of a cruise - lets you visit lots of different places easily, while leading a very comfortable existenceWe were in Rhodes a couple of weeks ago and the Balmoral cruise ship was moored in the harbour. We were waiting for the ferry to Symi Island and my wife was like "oh wow I can't believe how big they are up close".
About 12 hours later we returned and flanked beside it was the Norwegian Viva, which was easily 4x the size. And it's still not even close to being one of the biggest ones.
She's dying to go on a cruise. I can't stand the idea myself. Two weeks of a holiday where everything is fabricated and preplanned, stuck on a big metal floating box with thousands of other people. I'd much rather go on a road trip but it seems she's got that itch to scratch and it's not gonna go away until we've done it.
That said if I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it properly, ie. the biggest ship and the best destinations.
