i recently went back to this game for the first time in a while - and really really enjoyed it. The narrative is ace especially the English actors who are sending out mayday messages - anybody remember the early mission when you save a lone transport ship - 'Hell, ive got one, maybe two torpedo bombers coming in fast' - 'incoming torps!!' - ace. happy days.

Used to have that game like 6 years ago.

I had a fight with my lil bro and he ended up breaking the cd, I had almost finished it aswell.

Great game, very good story and ships were detailed and flying was a great experiance. I liked the whole multiple story branch as well.

You thinking of freelancer? even then that was quiet linear but at lest the side missions you could chose.. kinda.. heh

Multi branch mission structure i meant, where depending on the actions you do can effect the next mission. An example is killing the cloaked leader in one of the first missions. If you kill him then he wont cause trouble later in the game.

although, and i hope you agree, there was no point flying any other craft other than the ones that had the automatic aiming lasers - the other ships were pants because aiming the damn guns was so awkward!

Even tho it was probably cheatin a bit i did try to use blind fire ships most of the time. Was the only way i could hit them most of the time.

remember the last mission? that was a bitch - flying torp bombers - getting back to your ship - rearming, flying out - destroying enemy torps and getting the final torps fired at the enemy mothership - and no save points - arrrrrgh!

What was the last mission again, i dont think i completed it either. I think the last mission i remember doing was this uber capital ship we had to destroy while it was in shipyard or somit.

IIRC you were near Jupiter and were attacking a massive space station. You had to try and destroy it, then protect some ships flying in explosives and then destroy a part of the station that tries to get away.

Never got round to Starlancer (it came out during my sad pitiful period of building routes for MSTS), but have since caught up with Freelancer. AFAIK Darkstar One was a separate game in its own right and not connected to Freelancer. Also (IMHO) not a patch on Freelancer, the levelling up was a female dog at times, plot very linear and ended abruptly with little incentive to do BBS missions either. It 'bayed about a month after purchase.

I think the last mission for starlancer had you attacking a space station that had some sort of particle cannon i remember having to use the stealth ship to finish it.
