Letter to prison

One of my very close mates is in prison and im going to write him a letter soon.

Has anyone done any prison letter writing? Dont really know what to write as i dont want to put stuff about how well my job is going, how im loving life etc Or things he will find funny that are a bit dodgy that will be read/passed on to police.

Apart from stuff that happened in child hood upto about the age of 16 I cant really write about much because ive only seen him a few times. Going to be hard but ill have to give it some thought

Write about all the fitties you've been destroying. He'll love you for that. Also, make sure you spray a bit of your aftershave on the letter.

A 'prison letter' isn't that different from any other letter. I doubt the prison likes you talking about the crime or ongoing proceedings, or where they hid the loot etc. Comes down to common sense basically.

Just be aware that the letter will be intercepted and read by the prison authorities before it gets to your mate.

Would the odd joke about where ive hid the loot for him or the 7 foot black guard thats reading the letter thats gonna be his new special friend not go down too well? i want to put stuff that will make him laugh but i obviously dont want the letter to be scrapped.

My best mate went to prison about a year ago and he's out in October, so most of the letters now are about what we're going to do when he gets out. A lot of the letters are about what I'm currently doing in life, but he doesn't seem to mind, he wants to know, at least he's getting letters

It is also recommended that you write something along the lines of:

"Ha ha... it's good that the prison isn't allowed to read these letters. Last time I visited you mentioned you were wanted me to pick you up at *insert xxxx location and date* this is still a go. I have your money waiting to take you out the country."

I had to do one of these, I just put in all the stuff i've been up to. What I was thinking about, university life etc. Then I put some Cyanide and Happyness at the end for a laugh. They have **** all to do all day and they're locked up pretty much 24/7 so just chat about nonsense and what everyones up to. I was aprehensive about putting in LOL I went to Egypt etc, but it's interesting to know what people are up to. Keep him up to date on the latest news and also at the end tell him how often you can write to him, I said like every 2 weeks so it's not too much and I can consistently do it over his sentance. Also if you plan to visit him, put in your DOB and your phone number so he can ring you and he needs to fill out forms etc.

End of the day, he'll just be happy to hear from you regardless of what you write.

Seems a bit strange i only write/see people that something bad has happened to, when i havent spoke to them for years. Like funerals where you see people from your family you have never seen before and will probably not see again.

Yeah, takes about a week to get a letter back from the day I send mine, and he sends one back as soon as he gets it.

Life is sad like that,but on topic,just a nice friendly "normal" letter,try to gee him up a little,and i,ll bet he has no money of his own to get a few luxuries,toothpaste/after shave,even baccy,so a postal order,a tenner maybe,with his prison number on,payable to the governor,and he would be made up.
Phone the prison if your sending money,make sure everything is filled in correctly,or he won,t see it,or at least it will be delayed.
