Levelling lawn with top soil and new turf

Hi All

I've got an area of my lawn which is in need of levelling off rather. It used to have a concrete path running along it which I broke up and removed, I added topsoils and turf which has brough the level up a bit but it still needs raising some more.

My local garden centre has some good turf at the moment so I've got some put aside which I'll collect this evening.

My plan is to set a string line level with the existing more level lawn, add top soil to get almost to that level then put down the turf.

The thing I'm slightly having a problem getting my head round is how to get the ends of the turf to blend in nicely with the existing part of the lawn that is at the right level.

I'm thinking I probably need to dig down into the existing lawn the depth of the turf so the new turf lays flat level with the old?

Has anyone done this, if so, any advice, tips or pointers?
