Lewis Hamilton to support brother Nic on his racing debut

I was watching the whole show yesterday, and I cant believe how well he did at the start - well done him

Full Vodafone sponsorship.......strings being pulled behind the scenes a little perhaps?

Really hope he gets a good season under his belt, and continues to improve

I don't think it's even that.
Being Lewis' brother would guarantee publicity and Clio racing is pretty cheap. Seems a sensible move on their part and Reebok, Hugo Boss...

Strings being pulled? He got more TV coverage than any other car or driver in any other race, I expect the sponsors were climbing over each other to get on-board (although probably only on short term "lets wait and see" contracts).

I don't think he is going to have any issue with funding.

Not really - not due to anything he did, but because of the trip in the gravel/sand , he was way behind the field for majority of the race and hardly got any tv coverage

I cant see anyone else with so little experience (even with the personal money possibly helping) even being allowed on the grid

although admittedly Nic did get a lot of commentary time (without pictures)

I really hope he does well, and the over take at the beginning was very good indeed - Im just a little dubious that anyone else without that name would have got the same treatment / chance thats all

Were you watching the same coverage I was? What other back markers got shown on tele constantly and were a permanent topic of conversation for the commentators?

What other guys who came last got a big long interview with Louise?

Even the interview with the guy who won the Clio race was all about Nic.

Can you even name ANY of the other sponsors of any of the other Clio drivers without Googling it?

ITV4

He didnt get shown CONSTANTLY by any means (otherwise majority of the race would have been missed he was so far behind)

I was clearly talking about the RACE, not afterwards

Believe it or not I dont watch the racing for the sponsors, I noticed vodafone simply because of the Hamilton link, I have never had and dont particularly plan on ever having a vodafone phone so its neither here nor there and dont particularly recognise any other colour schemes etc

Whether the advertising is successful or not is neither here nor there, all I said was I think it has more to do with the Hamilton name than anything else (and I still wish him good luck for the rest of the season / however many races he gets)

Not true, get yourself an MSA licence and you can go an race like the rest of them

I was actually meaning from an experience point of view - while an MSA licence seems reasonably easy to get hold of, Im surprised most (if not all) teams dont want reasonably experienced (to some level) of racing driver rather than a complete novice

Oh you mean the team, can't speak for them but I know you can line up on a surprising amount of grids with the right licence and like you say most are not that difficult to get

Most drivers actually pay to be run by a team, so you could be a complete novice if you had a big enough chequebook. Though this may not be the case when you have the Hamilton name
