Lexus IS250?

I prefer non nav models too, at this age they start to look dated and generally if its not used as i never use it then its just pointless weight

I thought these were the highest tax bracket, the figures above don't seem right

They are, if newer than 2006

The Nav in the IS is actually a really good system and still looks good now. It has a high-resolution display with very intuitive menus.
The main things you lose if you don't go for the nav are the awesome Mark Levinson stereo and the reversing camera. Both of these things are worth "suffering" the nav for.
Also on the SE-L you get keyless entry and start, and air-conditioned seats which are ace in the summer.

Without the creature comforts it's just another underpowered, thirsty, old saloon car. If you're going to get one, you might as well get one with all of the kit.

Yeah it is the next band up from mine, I can deal with that though, not a problem. Especially as the insurance on it is actually less than the insurance on my current car, so kind of balances itself out in that regard.

The stereo doesnt bother me too much, music is music and I dont often listen to music as I drive anyway, usually I end up turning it down to talk to the wife anyway :) , reversing camera is nice though. Its got the keyless entry and start, not sure about the air-conditioned seats though (is that only on leather seats? This one has fabric seats as I dont like sitting on leather. (In cars or in home furniture :) )

Now that does change things a little for me as I do like a good stereo and often other toys are tied in with the nav system such as the air con etc could be used with the touch screen on my Accord which was pretty good but the screen itself looked dated and the resolution was poor

Good to know the Lexus screen doesn't suffer the same issues, still a shame about the tax though as I really like that interior and have a V6 itch to scratch at some point

Leather only. And leather is your only choice on the SE-L so I guess it's no good anyway then.

So, ignoring my previous comments. They are a solidly built, reliable, thirsty and underpowered car. I considered one a few years ago when they were pretty new but ended up going for the GS430 instead because the performance on offer from the IS250 just wasn't good enough.

Thanks, I hadn't looked at a GS430, I'll check into that now

I really, really fancy one of these. The SE-L is loaded with kit and they seem like great all-rounders, with the one exception being performance.. I think I'd probably find it lacking coming from the Mondeo? :(

Import a IS350 if you want go :)

Owners say they get the same mpg from a GS430 as the IS250.

I really like them but the keyless entry according to the Plymouth dealer has a range of 30 feet and I park my car 10 feet from my house so that means the car is open when I am in my house asleep... not practical.

Also, the engine doesn't turn off automatically and is very quiet, so quiet that a woman in the states parked in her garage, and went to bed not realising the car was still running and died from c02 poisoning :O

If true that system is stupid, my keyless has a range of about 3ft max from the side of the car, on each door handle is a little bump which when touched unlocks the car.

The boot is done only by proximity and has a range of about 2ft from the boot lid.

That's rubbish.
They keyless entry on my GS430 had a range of around 1 foot for opening the car.

To lock the car you press a button on the handle. Yes, it will lock if you walk off after around 30 feet but why wouldn't you press the button?

Are people so lazy these days that they cant be bothered to press a button to lock their cars?

Or flick a switch to turn on their windscreen wipers, or turn a knob to switch on their headlights or move a stick to change gear.......................

It's just easier, loved the system on my Megane, just walked away from the car and it locked itself, combined with auto unlock and push button start it meant the key never left my pocket. Only problem was that I frequently forgot to lock my front door as I got so used to walking away and expecting things to lock automatically :D

How does one reach a position whereby they 'hate' Nav?

I actually kinda hate nav in cars, as the are some drawbacks to it, firstly being unable to change the radio in a car is something that sucks more and more as the car is dated, I.E a few years ago when seeing a nav car I was like "damn I wish this car could be made to play MP3 CD's" these days it's "damn I wish this car had USB/Ipod input" in a few years time it will be something else and today's nav equipped cars will be unable to get it added cheaply/easily.

Secondly, who doesn't own a smartphone these days? IOS, Android and WP8 all have very good free nav apps (Navfree, Nokia drive) available which outclass pretty much any in car navigation system more than a few years old even if it has the latest maps.

It's pretty cool that the GT86 comes with a standard double DIN radio, will make it much easier/cheaper to change for prospective buyers down the line.

I have the system turned off on my cars ('02 LS430 and '06 GS300) as I find pressing a button on the FOB as a walk to the car then jumping straight in a better solution.

I far prefer my fully integrated nav to using my phone. Its just so much nicer having it built in rather than than faffing around mounting stuff to windscreens. I use my phone for navigation in rental cars and its really annoying. Plus the screens are small.

I don't mind using my phone or Tomtom for nav on the rare occasion that I need it, but I'd much prefer an integrated solution. If double-DIN nav units weren't horrifically expensive (at least £700 for a decent one. Decent non-nav double-DIN units are around £300-350, but as soon as you want that little bit of GPS functionality, the price doubles...) then I'd fit one.

That's not generally how keyless entry works. You press a button on the handle to lock it.
That's what I thought but we were sitting in the showroom (language business park) and he told me i could walk over to the car, 30 feet away, and just open it whilst the keys were in his office.

This means you can't leave any valuables in it or people could torch it ect.

Great way of selling you a car eh? but at least he was honest!
