When I had my Yamaha YSP 2200 soundbar connected to my Samsung TV I had my fire stick and PS5 connected directly to the hdmi inputs on the soundbar and I would get the DTS (blue) light. Now everything is connected to the tv (apps are on the tv for example) so I’m connecting the tv to the sound bar via ARC. I no longer get the DTS light.

I’ve set the tv audio to pass-through. I don’t know what else to do. Any ideas?

Oh no! I really should have researched this before buying :( I get an orange surround light. Does this mean I’m losing out on audio quality?

I feel really really disappointed :( Am I over reacting / misunderstanding?

Get a avr and seperates do away with soundbar. If you want sound quality.

Soundbars aren't bad but nothing like dedicated system. You then plug all yours sources into the avr.

LG TVs no longer support DTS pass through since 2020, to get DTS you will need to connect your PS5 etc into the soundbar first then run ARC cable from soundbar into TV.

it sounds like that's what you were doing before, so you'll just need to do the same thing.

My old tv didn’t support the refresh rates, colour gamut or resolution that the PS5 can output so I lost nothing by plugging my ps5 in to the soundbar. The C1 can support the ps5 which is why I bought it. Plugging the ps5 in to the soundbar is not an option.

Yeah I have LG c9 and it supports DTS out via e-arc. Stuoid newer models lack important feature.

You could get hdmi switch, plug sources into that, hdmi out to soundbar hdmi out to TV. It'll need two hdmi out.

You could buy a HD fury arcana which will solve your problems. Is an additional cost but will then allow you to get DTS working again.

However, if just using the streaming apps on the TV you should be getting Dolby digital without any issues as they don't use DTS.

Only way you will get DTS is if you are playing movies off of disks. Same goes for the lossless type of Dolby (Dolby Digital TrueHD) again no streaming platform uses this, they use the compressed Dolby Digital plus.

yah it’s from my NAS and PS5 where I feel like I’m missing out.

Would the Sonos Beam (gen 2) fix my issues and get me better surround? Would it feel like a step down from the ysp 2200 if I got it without a subwoofer (sonos sub is very expensive)?

Get passive soundbar, avr and you can add any subwoofers you want,.and surround speakers you want .[/QUOTE]

This is a game of "Find the Common Standard"

Your TV supports ARC and eARC, but the sound bar supports just ARC.

ARC supports:
  • PCM (2 channel)
  • Dolby Digital (up to 5.1 channel)
  • DTS Digital Surround (up to 5.1 channel)

But your TV does not support DTS, just DD and PCM stereo

What we have left then is ARC as a common connection standard,
and Dolby Digital up to 5.1 and PCM in 2-channel stereo as the common audio CODEC standards supported.

DTS as well as Dolby Digital are lossy surround sound formats, so they're on par with each other. Unless you can find a way to force the PS5 to always output DD then your remaining direct-from-console audio option is PCM stereo. Depending on the console/game then this may or may not include embedded Dolby Surround as decoded by Dolby Pro-Logic II movie/Game/Music mode.

An alternative is to use an audio stripper. This type of box sits in between the HDMI connection from the console to the TV. Picture + DTS audio passes out from the console. The stripper takes the DTS audio and strips it from the HDMI signal. The picture is still displayed by the TV. The DTS audio is made available via an Optical connection on the stripper. You would then connect by Optical between the stripper ad the sound bar. That's the theory. The hard bit is finding a stripper that works at 4K and that passes any HDR signal.

I’m really really kicking myself. I think the best thing to do would just be to live with the ysp 2200 being nothing more than a stereo soundbar. At least it goes loud and has a lot of bass thanks to the sub. It’s totally my own fault but it’s really taken the shine off my first new tv day in 13 years.
