I have a delimma, i am thinking of purchasing one of these 2 OLEDS purely for gaming at a desk.

Only issue is i like the PG42UQ for it's more PC centric features like the extra boost in Hz, Displayport, No ABL etc

The one big thing going for the LG C2 it's £400 cheaper, is the extra features of the PG42UQ worth the it?

I already have a 38GN950 and i want to upgrade to a larger display (i will be using this more for content consumption and work), i want proper HDR and i would like to get a bigger ultrawide but i have been put off the new 45 inch OLED ultrawides due to their much higher pricing and use of a shocking choice of 3440x1440 which is a regression of quality per size, the only thing going for it is the 240hz display.

We'll I did have the LGC1 48" and changed to the PG42UQ and very happy with it. The smaller size is much better and the added features are nice but not essential. I do prefer using DP over HDMI but that's just me. It really depends if you would prefer the anti-glare or fully gloss screen. To be honest the difference between the two is not worth the £400.00 price tag. I would go for the C2.

I did have the PG42UQ and had to return it after 2 months due to burn in, this was despite extremely light use (it was a second monitor). I ran a Cx48 for 2 years previous with zero burn in.

I lost trust in the Asus, obviously just my experience with it, the one thing i did do on both was keep HDR on all the time, i dont know if that contributed to the burn in or not, weirdly the burn in mine actually seemed like a reflection from my blinds, i couldnt work out what else it could possibly be other than from direct sunlight.

The sunlight could possibly be a factor. I don't use HDR and have not had any burn-in issues with the C1 or PG42QU with heavy gaming use. Brightness 59/Contrast 80.

LG CX sat in the same position but maybe the glossy screen protected it more, wouldnt have said it was a particuarly sunny location but hey ho.

Yeah, seen a few people come up with issues, but then i've seen a lot of other users happy with their purchase, especially after the updates
likewise hahah im halfway there savings wise for the asus anyway So another 3 month max lets see what happens

Owned the PG42UQ from release, came from a 48CX. My advice for whatever its worth, save your money and grab the LG 42, or wait for something else entirely.

Granted, updates have fixed a-lot of the issues such as the sleep/wake bug and to an extent the HDR (even though it appears people are still having issues).
i still have trouble getting the monitor to do 138hz 10-bit over DP or HDMI, having to resort to 120hz just to keep it stable. Many cables have been tried.

my other issues maybe win11 related but i’ll add them anyway because they are annoyances when using this monitor.
- windows doesn't like to go into screensaver mode all the time which means you become paranoid to turn off the monitor manually, it then doesn't always turn back on from the remote and you have to press the button on the monitor itself.
- after coming back from monitor sleep, you are greeted with an array of windows error messages such as ‘your display connection might be limited’, ‘a taskbar is already hidden on this display’ (which then proceeds to disable hiding the taskbar). Invisible taskbar apps like TranslucentTB even just stop doing there job and need to be restarted.
- i use the inbuilt speakers, they are decent, but nvidia/windows likes to chop and change/hide the actual pg42uq output every now and then and you have to go hunting for it in the system sounds hidden section.

These issues i never experienced on my 48CX, so im not convinced that windows is doing it by itself.
You also do get more with the C2, you get wider HDR support such as dolby vision etc. you get better speakers, a gloss screen (idm either but hdr does look better on gloss), you get the potential to actually use the built in smart tv features at any point in the tv life (netflix app with proper hdr support for instance). What appears to be a better/simpler stand too imo.

if i were to choose again id definitely be buying the C2 and saving myself a load of cash.

I feel maybe a 42 inch OLED Gaming monitor or the new 45 inch Ultrawides are just starting out and the ones we have are just not cutting it as i would like higher refreshes on the 42 inch with more PC like features while i feel the 45 inch Ultrawides have a shockingly low resolution and way to aggressive on the bend too. At those prices i'd rather not compromise features.

So i may just have to wait for better products to come out, can't see much happening this year for monitors, so maybe next year we will start seeing better models of OLEDs for Ultrawide and Large format.

I got a 42c2 here ... somethings do annoy me but I havnt fiddled as much as some - ie need to turn the monitor on/off with sleep/off. All the other monitors use a matte coating which no idea why I would want that with a oled monitor??? You go for oled for inky blacks and great colors and what put a coating on it? ... anyways - all the other 48 and 42 inch oled monitors have a coating the c2 tv does not :)
Really enjoy watching 4k content with this.
