LG G Pad 8.3

I ummed and arrred over buying this when it was around £200, then nearly bought at £179, didn't need to think twice this morning, so glad i saw this on hukd, mines been dispatched to my local store for Saturday :D

And no i'm not telling you which one :p

I have to say it's a cracking piece of kit!

Loads snapppier than my (now) old Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the screen is a lot better than I imagined it would be!

I have to say too, I wasn't sure about it having the white surround but it makes it look a lot more upmarket now I've had chance to get used to it!

These are still very available in stores, I just picked one up and they had more. The HUKD thread has been seen expired but it definitely is still £119 in stores if they have stock.

Yep they are still available. I just picked one up from a store in North London. There were quite a few left according to the lady. She even fished out a £5 off voucher for me bringing it down to £114 :)

The first store I tried said the offer finished yesterday and there were none available anywhere. Probably said that to preempt me asking him to look up stock levels in other stores.

Decided to try another anyway and am very happy I did.

Its no Nexus 7, but for the price point, it's exceptional.

True the specs on the Nexus 7 mean it is more powerful, although having used both not noticeably quicker, but the 7" to 8.3" screen size makes a world of difference on the LG.

I appreciate the modding community is much bigger with the Nexus 7 but that is only useful if you need or want it. Its running 4.4.2 now anyway.

both have near enough identical SoC's and specs. This has an SD Slot, slightly bigger screen and a SW overlay.

But this is ocuk and we measure in .MHz lol :D

After a fair few hours on an 8.3" it really is the ideal size with notably more screen space than a 7", especially ones with soft keys. 10.1" are great but no good for casually holding one handed.

On a side note, ordered one of the ELTD PU leather cases with sleep function and it arrived today. Its branded IVSO on the clasp which in the world of cheap pu cases still means naff all. Nice case, clips in really well via the sides so overall pleased for £9.95.

Ordered the same case 15 minutes ago so that's good news :)

From the jungle forest?

Link to said update please?
They still had some in stock then?

It should pop up a notification. You can also go to Settings > About tablet > Update centre > Software update. Accept the privacy policy then run the update. After the flash/reboot run update again and the second update will be 4.4.2.

The OTA software update never showed up on my tablet, but when I hooked it up to my PC using "LG software mode" it downloaded through the LG updater application.

Not really any smoother or faster (I already though it was awesome on 4.2), but the battery life is markedly better. Now getting up to 6 hours of screen on time, versus about 3.5 hours before. So my only complaint is now gone!

For gbp120 this is an absolute steal! :D

Cheers,

Su

back in the game. Bought 2 white ones for just over £106 each after cashback.

after I returned the black one few weeks ago, I thought I'd just wait for Nexus 9/10 v2, but at that price...

Last tablet I bought was a HP Touchpad (which is still getting decent money on eBay) so this'll be quite an upgrade for me.

was in the same situation, but G Pad's screen is much much smaller because of the aspect ratio. But it's ok till something like Nexus 10 v2 comes around

For updating to 4.4 you can either do it direct from phone ota or download the lg PC suite.

After the update you benefit from using the lg pc suite to do a repair under the phonevtab at top menu bar (can't remember exact term right now) then do a factory reset on the tablet.

Getting good battery life atm but went straight to 4.4 after unboxing.

Got mine set-up now and all seems well. Quite liking the LG front end so I'm in no rush to root etc.
Updated fine to the latest KK.
Popped a 16GB micro SD card in it, more because I had it spare than I actually need it.
Just waiting for my IVSO case to arrive.

I posted this over at XDA...

Anyone got any ideas as to why the Cloud Print (and HP Print services) do not seem to be installed under the Print option...? I thought that these were part of what KitKat offered, unless removed by LG...?

Having got a Canon cloud capable printer I would expected to have been able to add it easily, like I can with my Nexus tablet.

..... not sure how you are meant to get a print service installed, like cloud print, as that seems to be part of the OS....?

Found the plugin for the Cloud service....

Really liking my tablet so far.

Watched SkyGo for three hours this morning and used 38% battery (from fully charged). Using Lux to manage brightness so I have no idea of figures but it was a nice level for indoor daytime usage.

What is driving me nuts is not having Recent Apps as the bottom right menu button. Long pressing the Home button is a pain. Not even an option with all the 5 button layouts they provide. *grrr*

Anyone know a way to change it?
