Hi there

Not sure where to put this question so put it here. I have a 55 inch LG Oled B8 from 2018 TV. Supported resolutions are 1080p@120hz and 4K@60hz. My question is as follows:

I am playing Gears of War 5 and in the game options you can change the resolution. If I set in game the res to 1440p and run the benchmark the FPS do go down compared to 1080p native. What is happening here? My tv does not support 1440p resolution so what is going on in the game? If I run the benchmark at 1080p, 1440p and 4K I get 3 different sets of results.

Thanks

Michael

Your GPU is rendering at the resolutions you chose. The TV then has to down-sample that to 1080p, or upscale it to 4k, however it does it...

If you set for 1440p, the GPU is putting out 1440p. The TV then cuts that down again- so in other words, a total waste of time and energy!

LG oleds run 1440p just fine. Only at 60 Hz though for 2018. It does not downsample to 1080p, it up-samples to 4K which Of course won’t look as good as native 4K.
