Hi guys,

I'm looking for a new kickass big TV as I sold my old 1080p projector.

It's going in a 6m x 5m room (probably 4.5m viewing distance)

I'm going to use it for films (driven by an anthem mrx 710 with paradigm speakers and a PC running plex), gaming, and as the spectator screen for my Vive as well. I don't watch any sports, and not interested in 3d (aside from the Vive!)

I narrowed it down to the two in the title, but I'm after a second opinion and any others I should consider.

OLED does seem the way to go but hdtvtest's review of the Panasonic said it gave them a run for the money. Also, the OLED is very expensive, but I've heard the B6V doesn't have the same chipset so I fear my not get all the new updates to improve it.

Also please find me a place in switzerland selling it for under 800 quid ta ;)

I was in the same position as you OP, had a choice between the OLED LG screen and the Panasonic 58 900 series.

In the end I went for the Panasonic screen as I found the blacks on the LG to be crushed ie details within the blacks were not that great.

Don't get me wrong it's a great screen and money wasn't the issue but having had my Panasonic 58 900 series screen for the past 3 weeks. I'm more than happy at giving the OLED screen a miss.

Blacks are great on the Panasonic and 4K looks immense.

By all means have a look at both and go for the one you like. Personally as I said I'm extremely happy with my Panasonic screen, can't fault it one single bit and looks the part on my stand :).

But it's all subjective so I'd suggest having a look at both, which is what I did and settled on the Panasonic. Lots of people say the LG OLED screens are the best, there's no doubt that they are great screens. I was very impressed at the level of blacks on the LG OLED screens. My Panasonic is great at blacks but honestly speaking the LG OLED screens are much better but I found them a bit too black for my liking.

Interesting, as the hdtvtest review mentioned that, but then said the updates have made some stuff better.

I will have to have a look at it up close to decide. Thanks for the heads up.

Can't say if it's been updated as I didn't go for one but it also depends on the source. Granted the store I went to, didn't have the best sources but as I said it was a hard decision to make. The 65" wouldn't have suited my front room so between the 55 and 58 Panasonic, I ended up with the Panasonic and as I said it's a superb TV.

Maybe I'll go for the OLED in the future but at the moment the Panasonic I have is more than enough plus it being a fully backlit LED panel also helped. As I saw a difference between the 700 series and 900 series.

Which ever one u go for, I'm sure u will be happy. Both immense sets in their own right.

This. Though having been a Panasonic advocate since I started selling 20 odd years ago I'd go for that one. Especially as I've seen one in situ at my sisters, even my mum was impressed & she doesn't like big tellies.

My only concern would be the cooling fans at the back. Fans = Dust build up which in a house with a wood burner nearby isn't going to be good for the telly (not told my sister this yet though. :p)

Lol yeh the fans do have a quiet hum to them but you can't hear them unless you have the volume down very low or muted.

The E6 every day of the week it's superior to the Panasonic in every department also LG are bringing out within the next 3 weeks an update that allows HDR in game mode making the input lag 32-34ms when outputting HDR

Dark as space or black velvet with no reflection no light is perfection. Cannot wait for the day to replay all these games and rewatch all the dark movies on an OLED.

People need to understand that the problems near black are caused by the content not the TV, the reason you see it with the LG and the Panasonic oled is because no other TV has been able to produce the black and near black detail like oled can!
Take game of thrones for instance I have it on bluray and it looks out of this world because the file size is around 25gb per episode giving a bitrate of about 24-25mbps, but it can look very very shabby on sky. the reason being the first thing cut out of the broadcast to reduce the bitrate is near black shadow detail(because very few TVs can render the detail), sky's bitrate of game of thrones is about 10-15mbps which is a lot of bitrate to loose.
The more OLEDs become mainstream the more sky is going to have to pay the satellite owners for higher bitrates. People need to start/keep complaining to sky about picture quality it's the only way they will increase the bitrates!
