I'm potentially looking at upgrading to an OLED TV.

How much of a pain is it not having DTS passthrough on the new LG OLED models?

I've got a 7.1 surround speaker setup.

I've got a PS5 and perhaps looking at getting an Xbox X in the future. I also have an old AV amp, which would need replacing as it's able to process 1080p.

Wondering what pitfalls are there with no DTS on the LG TVs? If I upgraded my AV amp and fed the device to that first and then to the TV, I'm going to be introducing input lag, which is a given.. but I've read places about audio sync issues?

The TV will be for gaming and playing blu-ray movies. From what I've seen, the PS5 isn't the best method of playing blu-rays (no Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision), so don't mind shelling out for a bluray player.

Just wondering is it worth going for an LG in their current state or should I hold back or look else where. Thanks!

I'd do amp first, but not sure why you'd see input lag (or even notice any if your using a gamepad). I've not even considered an amp doing anything to the input.

I have an LG OLED and an old AVR so I'm buying one of these (https://www.thenaudio.com/product/sharc-earc-audio-converter/). It will turn any ARC/eARC signal into plain HDMI audio that can be sent to any HDMI-capable AVR even if it doesn't support ARC/eARC. Then just use 8ch LPCM instead of DTS. That's assuming the consoles allow internal decoding of DTS to multi-channel PCM.

Sounds a bit like the arcana fury. Hope the one you get works, as I know the fury has loads of positive reviews.

I think the Arcana fury is designed for people who have an eARC capable sound system but not an eARC capable TV, it basically works like a splitter, 1 input to 2 outputs. Whereas the SHARC eARC converter is for people who have an eARC capable TV but not an eARC capable sound system, it works like an adapter with 1 input and 1 output.
