Hey, looking forward to jumping to a beefy Ryzen 4000 CPU when it lands, in the interim my 16GB of RAM in my current 6700k system is causing me to hit page file more than I'd like. Ideally I'd like to get 32GB of RAM now that will work with my current setup but be optimal in a Zen 3 machine when it lands.

Was looking at purchasing

CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO BLACK 32GB (2X16GB) 3600MHZ AMD RYZEN TUNED DDR4 MEMORY DUAL KIT

My Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-GAMING 7 INTEL Z170 (SOCKET 1151) DDR4 ATX MOTHERBOARD

As below RAM support according to OCUK product info says max speed supported 3466 :S

Chipset Intel® Z170 Express Chipset
Memory 4 x DDR4 DIMM sockets supporting up to 64 GB of system memory
- Dual channel memory architecture
- Support for DDR4 3466(O.C.) /3400(O.C.) /3333(O.C.) /3300(O.C.) /3200(O.C.) /3000(O.C.) /2800(O.C.) /2666(O.C.) /2400(O.C.) /2133 MHz memory modules
- Support for ECC UDIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8 memory modules (operate in non-ECC mode)
- Support for non-ECC UDIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8/1Rx16 memory modules
- Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules

Can anyone confirm if I'd be okay firing new RAM into my old machine?

Cheers!

If you're going to be using the same RAM for a Ryzen system, it will matter how fast your memory is if you want to optimise performance. Learn more on this here: https://youtu.be/iHJ16hD4ysk

As for your motherboard, it looks like it supports up to 3866 MHz actually! Maybe it requires a BIOS update? https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Motherboard/GA-Z170X-Gaming-7-rev-10/sp#sp

Fast RAM is very affordable nowadays. I like Crucial Ballistix 3600 CL16. Should be great for your current system and future system too. https://uk.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/bl2k16g36c16u4b

Cheers, new RAM is in and working well. Went with 32GB of Corsair 3600, found at a great price :)
