Maybe someone could answer this quick question. Will any p4 chip fit in this socket. Have a 1.8 chip but need a board micro atx that will use ddr not ddr2 . Suggestions for board welcome.

Thanks

A P4 1.8Ghz is gonna be one of the early Northwood or Williamatte socket 478 P4s, so no it won't fit LGA775. And all skt478 chipsets use DDR so no need to worry.

You should be able to find a skt478 mATX mobo on the bay very easy.

If it's very early it might not even be a socket 478 - it could be a socket 423. I don't suppose you could give us the stepping off the top of the CPU? It's the only way to tell.

The only new boards I know of at the moment that are S478 are made by Jetway and ASRock. Neither are especially good, but try and get one with an Intel chipset. Another possibility tis to try and track down an early shuttle or Biostar SFF case as these turn a pretty ordinary old PC into a quite attractive little system and they are usually pretty cheap these days. The last new one I saw was going for about £70 and for that you got the motherboard, CPU cooler, case, power supply and all cabling which is quite phenomenal when you think about it.
