I quite fancy building a PC in the Lian Li PC-Q07B but unsure what components to get for the build.

I have always fancied building a PC that is both small and powerful enough for most PC tasks but i dont game on the PC anymore.

I really like a quiet PC for a start and have no problem with onboard GPU.

Is it possible to build a good PC that will serve my purposes of quiet, Power efficient, able to use for general PC tasks including photo manipulation?

What about using a Pico PSU? Is that feasable?

Not sure on budget.

Could i use some components from my existing build:

AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 635 2.90GHz (Socket AM3)

2gig DDR3

Waw, no help yet.

Anyway, i quite fancy the Mac Mini but not the price or the software! So, is it possible to build a PC the same size / spec as the Mac mini? If so, what components please?

Sadly, there are a lack of decent AMD ITX boards. Your best bet is buying an i3 or DUAL core i5 and using the GA-H55N-USB3 (review: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/mo.../gigabyte-ga-h55n-usb3-mini-itx-motherboard/1) and slapping in one of these:

It's just there to make certain tasks easier as using onboard can be a pain in the rear and would exceed the Mac Mini in terms of performance with limited stock cooler overclocking and powerful dedi GFX card.

EDIT: I specced a potential build:

Not many mini ITX boards that support AM3 sockets. Only one I could find info on is this there's a few suppliers here and there that stock them (google is your friend).

Depends a lot on budget really, would be helpful to know. Using a pico PSU with that processor would probably be cutting it a bit fine in terms of power consumption.

Maybe look to put together a build in that case using the previously mentioned mobo and use something like an SFX sized PSU with a mouting bracket (I know the Silverstone ST45SF comes with one but that's a 450W unit so a tad overkill!). Then buy a 2nd stick of RAM coupled with a 1 or 2 TB HDD if you've got a lot of photos and a bog standard optical drive.

Price estimation

Sapphire Mobo - £100
PSU - £40
PC-Q07 - £45
2G single RAM - £50
1TB HDD - £45
DVD RW Drive - £15

£295

i just posted a few picks of a build i did in one of these cases in another thread here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18169251

to be honest if you put the components Vinni3 @H|H has listed i think they will cook. the gfx card fan will be seriously impeded by the hard drive, if you are putting in a gfx card i would suggest using a laptop drive which screws into the bottom of the case so the card has room to breathe.

and i have one of these amd itx boards also and its a cracking little board - http://www.jwele.com/motherboard_detail.php?419

Fair point - the GFX will cook although he could swap for the cooler 5400 as he's not gaming.

ive got a build using this case (see thread in this section about halfway down page 1).

regarding graphics cards youre limited quite massively on length, also i found that the heatsink fouled the hard drive.

Surely he's better off just getting an AM3 board to go with his quad core AMD, instead of shelling out £150 for a similar processor with a different badge on the front?

Then he doesn't have to worry about intels dodgy drivers either.

Just in case you didn't spot it in that thread i linked there's a review of that Sapphire mobo here - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlon-ii-x2-250u_3.html#sect0

there is nothing at all wrong with using his current amd quad core and if he can find the board you suggested or the J & W board i suggested from a reputable seller then that would be they way to go (the one i suggested does take laptop ram though).

Right guys, i need your help please.

My mate likes the Lian Li PC-Q07B and wants to build a cheap as possible PC with one with onboard GPU. He has a TFT, keyboard and mouse etc.

What components would you recommend. Thanks

the cheapest itx board would probably be the ZOTAC NF610I-K-E which can be had for under £40, you could pick up a cpu from the members market like an e2160 or similar for around £15 - £20, then its just the cheapest 2gb ddr 2 you can find, a hard drive, the 450w ocuk psu and an optical drive and away you go :)

you could get away with the ocuk value psu's as it only has the 24 pin, 4 pin and 1 row each of molex and sata's which is about the least cables you can get on a psu.

What mobo could i get to fit in the Case and accept the above CPU and Ram?
