Hey guys, putting a system together using the above case. Was hoping for some tips from others that have used the same case as I am not finding it that easy, being my first sff build.

How do I get the cdrom fixed, do I have to take the front panel and hdd cage out to get to the screws to fasten it in place?

I have the mobo and all componants on the tray but it's not easy to get cable access. Do you just insert the mobo tray and fumble around until all cables are in place or is there a better way. Not finding it easy at all.

This unfinished build is in danger or becoming a permanent ornament in my room.

When i built my one i had to get the cables on by as you put it fumbling around but it is worth it just real hard work i spent a good 3 hours putting mine together.

I have a external CD drive so i have no idea about fixing one in sorry

Click the link in my sig if its any help

Thanks for the advice and the link mi, will have another go when I perhaps have more patience as perhaps that is the missing ingrediant here. :)

Hey Jifster,

I did a HTPC build with this case a few months ago. A fantastic end-product but my god was it fiddly! I must admit I dont want to tackle another SFF anytime soon, but stick with yours!

I'm working away from home right now so cant send you any pics (if you still have issues at Xmas let me know as I'll be back in UK then), but as far as I remember I could only tighten the fixing screws of the CD ROM on the right side as I look into the case - left side access looked impossible being so close to the fixed side panel of the case.

I did all of the build with the motherboard tray out, and when almost complete slid it 3/4 the way in and finished the final connections, with a tight squeeze to get the tray all the way in and secured what with the fat cables of the power supply.

There's a lot going on in my case - Q9550, Ati 4890, sycthe mini ninja in push/pull, SSD and 2 disk raid - just need to get the little beast a bit quieter now!

Hey grumpy, thanks for the advice. Hopefully it will be finished by xmas but you never know. ;)

I have one of the sycthe mini ninja's as well. Did you have difficulty with the clips on that? I felt like I was almost standing on the damn thing to get the clip in place. At one stage I did not even care anymore if the mobo smashed into little pieces as I was going to get that %$£% thing fitted if it was the last thing I ever did !

I got it on in the end but hell, god knows how I did not crack the mobo!

Maybe it's just me that has these difficulties?

lol :p

Sounds like you're having fun there Jifster!

I mounted the heatsink with the motherboard tray out. Also had both heatsink fans connected to power, but not mounted (remember I had to mount 2 of the damn things as running in push/pull). I then slid the motherboard half way into the case, and through the open side mounted the left-side "push" fan (very fiddly with these sausage fingers getting around the back to connect one fan clip, starting with the bottom end and stretching the clip until it slotted into place at the top of heatsink and fan rentention hole), fitted the other push fan clip, then mounted the "pull" fan - a little easier to access.

Then a careful sliding of motherboard all the way home into the case with all kit mounted/connected.

It's a lovely little great looking case - and quite something of a powerhouse too. Keep going mate, sounds like you are nearly there!

Thanks again for your advice grumpy. One problem I have come up against is the hard drives seem to need right angled sata and power leads for the fan and hard drive bay cover to fit back in place. Did you come up against this issue?

I am also finding it difficult to get my Asus Xonar Essence STX Sound Card installed as leads need to plug in along the top of the card and this would make it impossible to get the mobo tray back in. I had to slide the tray in and as luck would have it there is then a little space above to manouver the plug into the top of the card and into it's socket.

SFF builds are not for the impatient. I just hope windows 7 is still current when I get it finished otherwise i've wasted £80 on my pre ordered professional edition lol. :)

Normal SATA cables will fit unless they have enormous heads, just pull them through and there won't be excess cable getting in the fan.

It's a good case, but can be very frustrating to work on, I have a V350 which is even worse. I had so much fun getting a 9800GX2 in it. My top tip is to get some Lian Li thumbscrews (need to be Lian Li ones or they won't fit, they come in a few colours incl black) for the side panels as those tiny screws are horrible if you ever need to get in.

that would look disgusting though.

I own a v350b, last month I took out my water loop; cpu, chipset and graphics.

Now fitting that all in last year was a headache, especially with water being involved. The only issue I had upon converting it back into air, (in order to cram a GTX260 in) was the scythe mini ninja. Everything was assembled prior to sliding the tray in but that was too big, getting the clip closest to the I/O panel and at the back was a right PITA.

I cant say I have ever encountered issues with the HDD bay though :/

Thanks again for your advice guys, build is still not complete due to work commitments. Will hopefully give it another go soon when I have the right angle sata cables as they definatly won't fit with the fan on the hd bay cover. I changed the fan and it does not have the grill thing on the inside so that does not help either so will have to get one of those. I will give it a few more goes but if I still can't figure it out it's big hammer time and back to standard case for me. Maybe I'm just too old for this now, never used to be a problem. Lack of patience maybe.

It's f"#$$%! beat me, I give up!!!!

How anyone can build one of these things is beyond me. Every cable I try seems to be a mile too long, I can't find where to plug the fans in, cdrom is imposible to install in the case, loads of cables and leads over it's driving me bl@@dy bananas.

I would rather be tortured with a red hot poker than spend another minute trying to put this damn thing together.

I have obviously bitten off more than I can chew with this one. I've built pc's before but I now feel old and useless lol. :(

If anyone puts these things together for a living let me know. I am in North West London but make fairly frequent visits out West to Mid Wales/Herefordshire so anywhere along the way.

my v350 took about 2 days of work! (i watered the cpu too so even more pain)

just gotta be gentle and work things out logically.

for the cd drive i just screwed one side in with a long screwdriver through the hdd bay. (and i remember that being annoying cus i kept dropping the screws haha)

I put all the power cables in last, which worked easier for me :)

and yup, i nearly threaded a few screws into the sidepanel. Pile of >.>
