Situation:

Passed my driving test Feb 05, but forgot to apply for my license as I was not really driving so I didn't get it until feb 06.

To rent a car in cyprus I need to be >21 and have had my license for 3 years. My card states 15/2/06-22/4/14, the date the card was issued and when it expires. So the question is does the 3 years start from the issue date of the first license or from the date I passed my test?

Thanks for any help.

Well I'm sure that the "from" date on your licence is the date that particular licence (i.e the physical item) is valid from. In other words, each time you're issued a new one the from date will be updated.

If this is the case then that can't be used as the date from which you were "licensed" to drive and so it must be taken from the date you passed, surely?

(Of course I could be talking complete tosh here :) )

A UK licence will state the valid from and valid to dates from each entitlement regardless of when the physical document/card was issued. However as you did not technically have a valid licence until the date you sent off your paperwork, I think you're stuffed as legally that is when your entitlement began.

Do you still have the test pass certificate?

Not sure, I'm not at home right now to check the paper section. I guess I can always phone the DVLA just to be completely sure.

Luckily there's someone else that can drive so it's not a catastrophe. Been planning this for a while though and it's only just clicked today, annoying as I was the one who was meant to be driving.

Thanks for the help.

edit:
Yes I should have the test pass certificate at home. Now to tell my mates :/

it's from the date you passed your test, look on the back of the photo card and the paper counter part, it will state the dates from when you passed your test. Not from when the license was issued.
