On a similar note, i've bought a copy of windows recently for my sons pc. I'm now planning on re-installing windows on my laptop.
I've got the licence on the back of the laptop however i've not cd. Providing the versions are the same (Windows 7 Home Premium) am i ok to use the retail cd and then use the key from the laptop?

The only difference between the OEM and retail disc, are the product key, and OEM automatically activate themselves when they are installed onto the manufacturer's motherboards. So, i would say your safe to go.
