Life in South Africa...

You can tell I have watched one to many Hollywood’s films but all I could think watching that was for the passenger to roll down window and fire back whilst hanging sideways :)

I would have dumped the truck first opportunity and legged it, ain’t worth dying over someone else’s money.

Ha same. They need some method of being able to shoot back without rolling down the windows.

But seriously **** that noise for a job. Literally putting a big neon sign on your head saying come and shoot me.

That was crazy but you could probably tell that bloke driving had seen some action before with how calm he was and then ready to just get out and start shooting at the end. The other guy looked like he was calm but you could tell he was thinking * ****. Wonder what they are paid for such a risky job.

Has to be ex-military with that sort of composure.

So I take it the escort vehicle wasn't armoured then? At the of the video it cuts off when the guy gets out of the vehicle, does he go off and shoot at the attackers or what?

According to the news there isn't any shooting after the video ends.

Can't see much about the escort vehicle.

Escort vehicles will be regular cars or pickup tracks in order to blend in with other traffic. Making regular cars resistant to small arms fire is expensive and making them resistant to small arms whilst keeping them looking like regular cars is even more expensive.

I occasionally used to watch videos of a response unit who go to stuff like that - some crazy stuff - sadly happens quite frequently. ( https://www.youtube.com/c/AntonKoen ).

Where I used to live in London I had a few neighbours who'd moved from SA either due to being on the receiving end of that kind of stuff one too many times and/or to bring up a family away from it.

I believe the reason they tend to drive stuff like that is the heavier armoured stuff makes it more obvious and can result in being a target for more organised efforts i.e. RPGs.

Google farm murders.

I can't remember exact details now but some of my neighbours in London who'd moved from SA had incidents like that - one lot came home to find they'd been robbed, then found their neighbours robbed and killed - having 2 young kids they packed up and got out of there. (They lived in some kind of compound).

One of my wife's university friends went back to South Africa about 15 years ago. She was living in a gated compound so relatively safe. We suddenly lost contact and found out why recently. She had been robbed and murdered at her home by the gardener she had just employed (tied up in her kitchen and stabbed multiple times). They found her after the school called the grandparents to report that the kids hadn't been collected.
