Life in South Africa...

Says there were being fired upon with AK47's.
Looks like they planned ahead and bought the expensive glass

It's less about the gun and more the number of repeated hits in a small area - hence the poster saying "sustained" fire. So the glass they had survived 1-2 rounds from an AK variant but might not survive being hit 30, 60 or 90 times etc which is why armoured glass like that is sold as "bullet resistant" and the more you pay the higher the level of resistance (how many times it can be hit and not fail) you get before it fails.

If you can hit 30, 60or 90 times in the same spot, then you don't need that many and you'd be a gun for hire.

Ooohh google SILATEC glass

Sadly I doubt this has a happy ending, as this gang seems fairly organised unless the police, etc. go to town on that gang and/or these guards and their families move to another country - I doubt the government can protect them and I would be unsurprised if there are people connected to organised crime either inside the company they worked for or working on the periphery of it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in 6 months time or so it ends up with them being found dead in their blood stained, bullet hole riddled car with their gun half drawn or walk out of a shop into a hail of bullets and get 3 innocent bystanders killed, etc. as has happened before in SA, Brazil, Mexico, etc.

I thought this too. The media and Youtube have inadvertently marked this guy as it has blown up everywhere.

More footage has come out of this - I don't know where best to link to due to the amount of swearing, etc. some pretty crazy situational awareness when you see the full picture of what was going on.

Few things the earlier videos don't show - he took the fight to the attackers at the end but grounded the vehicle forcing him to get out and take a stand which wasn't the smartest thing but easy to be critical when not under that pressure.

Indeed, most people would **** themselves in that situation. I forgot where I heard this but when armed police raid houses and point a gun at people, a high percentage of individuals wet themselves.

There is a more detailed interview with Leo - he mentions at this point he is realising these aren't just your average thugs - they are using tactics and firing with accuracy showing proficiency with their weapons and obviously not the first or second time they've done this and it is closing down the options for him - trying to get close to their vehicles would have put the fight more in his favour but it doesn't quite work out - fortunately though that scared them off at that point.

Very interesting ballistic analysis video of the vehicle.
The guy trusts his armour not sure I'd chose to be shot at like that.

It's a dumpster fire at the moment. Whole towns getting trashed and burned down. The town my aunt and uncle lived in years ago (Ladysmith) has been turned to something from a post apocalyptic war movie. My brother and sister in law are unable to leave their homes in Benoni at the moment because these rioters are apparently in the town ready to kick off. The Indian community have posted videos of them holding AK-47s telling these rioters to stay away or get killed. The army are being sent out.

It's absolute madness, the whole country is done for. So sad to see.

I was lucky enough to have lived in Johannesburg in the 90s, aged 12 to 21. Beautiful country that has so many problems though, could end up just like Zimbabwe if they are not careful.

No one seems to care about anyone else in Africa. I think that is the root of many problems.

Empires have come and gone, but they never really progressed past the iron age on their own. Britain arrived and SA grew, tried to change it but it's being torn apart.
