At what point would you consider using hooks to do shrugs? I always considered myself to have strong wrists/associated grip but I am really struggling with the reps (8+) above 170kg using a free bar. I was wondering whether to use hooks or try to improve my grip with pinch grip exercises etc? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Edit: Forgot to mention using hooks would get me to about the 200kg mark.

Do you use chalk?
I'm curious, do you find shrugs help build the traps? I've never really done shrugs and people keep saying I have well developed traps, I guess from heavy deadlifts.

I hadn't thought about chalk but if I was being honest with myself I would feel that would only gain me an extra rep.

What's your form like? Nice high shrugs with a squeeze at the top are rarely seen being done with that sort of weight unfortunately :(
