Is it just me that this winds up?

Perfectly able bodied people using a lift to go up a whole ONE floor. Why do they do it? Are they THAT lazy?

It's such a nuisance when you are using the lift to get to the top of, say, a 10 storey building only for it to stop 5 times on the way so some lazy person can up a SINGLE floor despite the fact using the stairs would have been quicker than waiting for a lift anyway!

Or when you take them down a hotel. And some plank takes the stairs and pushes the button on every floor. :D

Nope, not just you.

People do it in my building when there is also a perfectly good escaltor to go to the first floor. It can't be that they are lazy, just that they don't think.

Not just you!

Not only do the lazy arses take the lift up one floor to the lecture theatre, depsite a huge sign saying use the stairs if going up to lecture theatre, they stop the thing on the way down!!!

Another one that annoys me with lifts is when say four people are stood waiting for the lifts. Then another person comes along, moves infront of you and presses the button.

Why do they have to do that?
Do they really think four well educated people are going to stand there waiting for the lift and not press the button?

Friend of mine said he had the same at his uni....used to get the same guy calling for him to hold the lift, to then get off at the first floor. Said it used to wind him up so in the end he just didn't hold it :D

Happens all the time here, people going down one floor bugs me the most for some reason :p They'll actually stand and wait for the lift when it's quicker to simply walk down one flight of stairs.

I use the stairs whenever possible, unless I have to use the lift. It's normally quicker than the lift too, even from ground to the 8th floor at work. :)

I do like going up one floor in the lift when I have a trolley loaded with computer gear in one of our buildings, as it narks off the people that want to use the lift the one floor and they don't need to because the trolley takes up almost all of the lift, there is only space for it and about two people, normally one (me) if I'm being mean.

It's also fun making other guys at work use the stairs, as I work in the IT Services dept, most of them are really unfit, so after a couple of floors they are shattered. :D

Another thing that really bugs me is people that don't know how lifts work. There was one fat monstrosity in the hospital our lass had her knee operation in and she'd push the up button and down button no matter which direction she was wanting to travel.

It comes quicker if you do that, she'd tell people.

Fat *****.

This used to happen in my last office, they would wait five minutes to go up one floor, very annoying.

When I'm using a particular 5 storey building at Uni it's quicker to use the stairs if more than 4 people are waiting becuase you just KNOW at least two of them will get off on the first floor

OT, I know it's a common perception that IT folks are either weedy geeks or fat biffas, but I've never really come across that; since I've started taking a greater interest in my fitness I've noticed that they Gyms where I work are mainly used by folks from IT. Strange.

Really annoys me when you have someone go in the lift who like you say is perfectly able to walk up stairs, when me and the missus with our push chair are waiting and they give you such a glare for waiting for the lift!

Yeah, lots of the guys in the IT section here do sports and go to the gym, but there are some that look like they are fit and healthy, but aren't and there are others that are typical IT people. :p

Why do we all get in do a 180 and stare at the doors and not make a noise?

We do it so that we don't look like muppets when we get to the correct floor and the doors open and we are looking at the back of the lift, not noticing we are at our floor. As for the silence, it's an enclosed space with people you don't know, most are uncomfortable with that and don't talk to others. I talk to colleagues if we're in a lift, and sometimes to other people...I get strange looks. :D
It's also so that it's easy to pinpoint who's just let one rip. :p

Long hair with a scruffy appearance with music/geky t-shirts?

Pretty much, although we have to wear 'IT Services' T-shirts, or proper shirts.
