I'm looking for an application, very light on resources, that will allow me to make and organise notes, preferably to also allow some rudimentary formatting (bold, colours etc). Light on resources because I want to be able to open it with minimal delay on an old laptop. I would want to be able to password the notes too. Does anyone have any good suggestions please?

I like Treepad Lite but it doesn't do formatting. I only really started using it as I was ending up with loads of notepad created *.txt files all over the place when jotting things down and this was the first thing I came across that seemed to do the job.

That looks really good actually. No formatting is a good thing as well (for me) :)

Evernote is popular, but not sure if it's as light as you want, worth a try though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do like treepad lite but it would be nice to have a password feature. $35 seems a lot for the SAFE version.
