light bulb

i need an energy saving bulb that can best replicate the light given by a 50w gu10 bulb.

You can get compact fluorescent lamps in a GU10 mount, though some of them aren't pretty if they are going in an exposed fitting. Also, some ceiling fittings only seem to take the halogen sized lamps; some CFL's are quite a bit deeper. I think they equate 11W CFL's to a 50W halogen.

We have some in a couple of places in the office; they are OK for lights that switched on and left on for a period, but are very slow to warm up to full output.

Have a look for Megaman - though there are others available, which are often cheaper than Megaman.

forgot to add dont be taken in by the led ones. I bought some and they are so dim you may as well have no lights on.

does the 11w really equate to 50w though? all the energy saving bulbs are nowhere near the quality of the halogen bulbs and it really ruins the mood of the room :(

Not sure how well the 11W CFL's equate to 50W halogens - I've never tried them back to back - but the 7W ones are crap. I can get a brighter light by rubbing two sticks together.

I have some energy saving GU10s in my hallway. They're ****** terrible for the first 1-5 mins. Then they're just like normal.

Although the rest of the apartment is normal bulbs. Retarded decisiont to be honest. Why would you spend 5mins in a 2x1 hallway?
