Evening All,

Whilst changing a light fitting this weekend I came across 4 T&E cables joined in to an old chop/connector block. The house is a 1920-30's semi with old wiring (red/black).

4 live wires were crammed in to one terminal, 3 Neutrals in to another and then a single neutral on it's own leaving one terminal vacant. All the earth's were just twisted together and left bare.

On the other side the the Neutral to the light joined the 3 neutrals in. And the Live joined the single Neutral on it's own.

Having disturbed the live loop to two other lights upstairs, it's a bit temperamental so I'm looking to house this in something more accommodating. Thinking I could use Wago splicers to group/pair these together a bit more generously?

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

BennyC

Previous owner had kindly almost covered the plastic rose in plaster hence the mess... this is now graciously hidden behind a ceiling rose, I still have access to the block.

*Edit - could probably run 2 live in to each end and similar with the neutral thinking about it...

Use wagos and wago light box. You'll need the 4 terminal connector the lives. The single neutral sounds like it is actually switched live.

Yeah, sounds like you've got 3 x T&E for a feed and then cables out to two more fittings (or groups) and then other one used for switching. The neutral should be marked up as a live (pop some brown tape round it). That'll help you out anyone else in the future. Oh, and sleeve the earths.
Either use Wagos or a lighting junction box. Personally, I like the Wago lighting boxes but the old style junction boxes work too.
