A fairly simple one would be a "hat-trick" - it started off meaning that the person had achieved three consecutive dismissals bowling in cricket in a single game but the meaning has been broadened to include that of other sports/achievements such as football hat-tricks (which in itself has been broadened from being consecutive to being simply within the same game and includes subcategories such as the "perfect" hat-trick which would be head, right foot and left foot). You can still use it in a specific sense or in a much wider context yet people will still know what you mean by it.

Nice pictures above, I particularly like the very top one.

Was Picaso painting a vase of flowers a waste of time because it wasn't very imaginative?

The thing is, doing them in photoshop may take less time but it is considerably less interesting. You are essenitaly just dwaring lines on a peice of paper, if you are going out and creating art, however "unimpressive" as you would say, you are at least doing something.
