These are superb!

That lightbulb consumes 6.5W, you don't need to work out the maths but the saving over a generic 100W bulb is huge. Factor in the fact these last a minimum of 10 years too.

Acemodder, put 10 aside for me please as I am buying a load for the house, much cheaper electric bills here I come. :)

That seems a bit optimistic, I consider myself a heavy home user of electricity yet my total monthly bill is more like £150. Do you mean £7.00?

Interesting product for OcUk! How much light do these put out? For example with the top one, most energy efficient bulbs will advertise as 10W but with the equivalent output of a 60W standard bulb.

So if this is 4.5W it would put out as much light as a ?W standard bulb.

Cheers

Serious question here chaps.

Is there any information if these are prone to the flickering that normal flourescent tube lighting and the other 'energy saving' bulbs get?

Not the type of flickering they get when they break, but flickering in general (even if it cannot be seen). My GF has a medical condition and is really worried about the move to the other 'energy saving' bulbs as she cannot sit under them, or normal fourescent tubes, without getting a headache.

She has been stockpiling normal bulbs for ages now and these could be a very valid option!

Fantastic marketing comparing the savings to 100w incandescents is seriously misleading as the majority of people will be running compact fluorescent almost everywhere so the comparable savings would actually be tiny and take a decade or so to earn back the difference. LED is almost certainly the future but not at £20+ a bulb, if the cracked a decent GU10 alternative things might be different as people still run 50w versions of those by the dozen.

I believe the government have promised that incandescents bulbs will remain available to those with a medical need until such time as suitable alternatives can be found. Not sure if LED fits this criteria.

Also another question, can you dim these? The only standard bulbs I have in my house now are where we have dimmer switches.

These LED types don'y ficker half as much as std energy saving mate.

Quite possibly but they have to not flicker at all. Like a normal bulb.

It affects her really badly, so much so that she has to work for herself, as she cannot go into office spaces for any length of time. :)

Her old man is an ageing eco-warrior and if she goes to see him, he grudgingly has to change all the light bulbs in the house back to normal ones!

*edit*

She has been told the same but like I said, these may be a very valid alternative for her. :)

These light up fully in a nanosecond unlike the danagerous Mercury based light bulbs and also after contiously use you can hold them without any heat issues.

what about brightness and colour temp of the bayonet bulb? do you have any figures?

I hate "energy saving" mercury bulbs because they are too dim

Was waiting for the Mercury comment it always comes out to bash the CFL yet nobody has any evidence of them causing harm, I've had them in my house for over ten years and have yet to break one releasing all the 'deadly' mercury. Even if I had nobody has produced conclusive evidence that it would harm me in a significant way, the Japanese eat far more mercury in fish showing blood levels well above US recomeneded limits without showing any adverse effects.

Scare mongering is not a valid form of marketing.

yea could really do with a bit more info on the Emprex B101 LED
but for those wondering 4.5w led is comparable to 50w halogen

but they come in different temps i use warm white (same colour as std)for bedrooms and toilet
with cool white in the kitchen and living room (gives off a much whiter light)

i have already converted my entire house over to led but i use the gu10 about 80% are 3watt the other 20% are 6watt but these are dimmable
been using them for about 1 year and they are as bright as the day i bought em

Awesome product imo.

These bulbs should be of great interest to the domestic market but even greater savings can be made to the business user. Most businesses have dozens of lights switched on all day to illuminate the offices.

The light generated is flicker free and a "cleaner white" in colour, much easier on the eye. They also generate a lot less heat than a conventional bulb and are therefore safer.
