We moved into a new house about a month ago now, i fitted a new light to the bedroom which has a en-suite, took it down again because the fiancée doesn't like it

Anyway now i have put the original bulb holder back up, you have to switch the main bedroom light on to get the ensuite, which never used to be the case, i have shown the diagram below, can anyone advise on how it should be wired. There are 3 lots of grey cables coming down from the celling, the gold cirlces are the contact points in the bulb holder.

It will likely be one cable coming from the last ceiling Rose, one going to the next ceiling Rose, and a cable going down to the switch. You have made the ensuite part of the switched circuit. The cables between the two roses should be connected into the same terminals to create a circuit all the time. The cable to the light switch should take the mains power down to the light switch and back up to create a circuit with the light.

My advice would be though if you are not sure and have got it wrong once already, get an electrician in. Also remember that the cables up there are live even with the light switch off.

Have a look at this:

It sounds like you have taken your feed for the ensuite light from the switch cable rather than the in/out cable (the loop) meaning light B only works when light A is already on.

Cheers for that, just looking now, the switched cable only has live and neutral and earth. So would the live go into the loop? You can tell this is the new cable as the colours are correct where by the others are black and red etc.

All this is being done while the electric is off.

Try this. I'm confident it will fix it.

That brown wire is the supply going to the next light. It need to be in the loop and not on the switched side.

That makes sense as that is how it is, but there is another cable with a brown and blue wire which feeds the ensuite, so my question is, where would those cables go?

That brown and blue cable to your ensuite should be connected up like the "OUT" cable in the diagrams posted. Sound like all you've done is mixed the loop wire up with the switch wire (easily done if the switch wire isn't marked)
