Hi folks,

Can someone please do me a huge favour and try and lighten a photo for me. I am trying to get it so that you can see me and my girlfriend but whenever I try and lighten it it goes grainy!

The picture is here

Sorry for the size but I am looking to get it printed in a large size.

Cheers

Honestly mate i think that's a bit of a no-hoper. It's a shame, but as you said it's so dark that to lighten it to a decent standard simply means it's a noise-fest. You can't get away from that. To print it at a large size would (imo) look pretty awful. I'd pick another to print. Sorry!

I think the only option is deselecting the lighter areas at the back and trying to up the brightness and conrtast.. even then the noise is pretty strong so you would have to reduce the size of the image to try and compensate :(

The Shadow/Higlights tool works very well on this type of picture. Theres still plenty of detail in the picture and quickly using the shadow tool on about 40% worked well for me.

Its not brilliant, but its certainly not terrible. RAW would have helped.

Thanks everyone, I knew it wasn't going to be easy. We're trying to put a calendar together for my girlfriends grandma and wanted a picture of both of us somewhere nice for the cover picture.

xolotl is there any chance of a larger version of that just to see what it looks like it looks ok to me for the cover picture. My email address is mail at mattsinclair dot co dot uk.

Thanks a lot for all the help

Matt

Try using a HDR on the original , I've just redone my attempt & I reckon it looks better :)

Would have to adjust it to get rid of the line on the rock edge ;)

I knows it been done 3 times now, but i thought it could be done better.
There is an annoying bright bit over your missus, cant really fix that.

That last one is good but the sky has gone a bit crazy. I still think the OP would be better off finding a different photo.

Some crafty Dodge/Burn work would sort that out fairly easily i'd imagine...

I did have a good go, but found the quality just darkened, and made it look rather pants.
I got the clothes to stand out fine, but that patch of brightness is just ruining it. Her face is lacking so little detail that its nearly to hard to regain.
I may have another fiddle with some sharpeness, and noise removal to see if i can clear it up.

Ok ive had time to fiddle a little more.

although ive cleaned it up a lot, its not worth printing imho, not unless your talk 10x8 at the most, and then i dont think it would look to good.
