I have a free month of LR and PS through an nVidia promotion. I've used LR CC for years and it's been a bit sluggish, never used PS.
After getting the cloud backed versions, LR runs like dog ****. Using the local tab instead of cloud seems to help a bit but as soon I start using masks, there's a ticking clock before it completely craps the bed; e.g. extremely slow switching tools or photos or a tool won't show the required icon on the photo - I have to switch to another tool, photo or restart the app to get it back.
Are these apps really that bad or am I missing something? My CPU (5800X3D) is getting on a bit but it's hardly ancient, I have plenty of RAM (64GB) though have noticed LR can gobble up 15Gb without much effort. Admittedly my RAWs are saved on a HDD but I moved a batch to edit to my NVMe and whilst initially a little better, it didn't take long for the slowness to return. I have my 3090 turned on for optimisation. Any tips or advice?
And don't even get me started on 'updating AI settings', if I use the AI tab instead of local - it looked like it was going to take more than 15 minutes to simply copy and paste some settings to another photo.
