Lightroom, CaptureNX2 or what?

I'll take some solace knowing you'll be old and paying full whack for everything soon enough :p

Hmm, fair enough, but I only have to pay upgrade costs from now on :p

Edit: Actually, after the BSc, I'm doing my Actuary qualification... Potentially 6 years of studenty discount goodness xD

Another vote for Lightroom here, by the way there is also a little trick you can use to trial run it for longer than the 28days before you decide to buy (which you probably will cos its very good for the price). Each incremental update gives you another 28days (30?) free use. So start off by downloading version 4, at the end of the 28 days get a copy of v4.1 and update the previous install it gives another 28 days without loosing previous settings etc, then move to 4.2 and so on. Just google the file name ie 4.1 would be "Lightroom_4_LS11_win_4_1.exe".

Tried Lightroom didnt like it, Photoshop just does everything you could ever want.

Lightroom is just lightweight Photoshop, it's much better for lightweight batch processing of photos. If you need to do heavier editing then it's time for Photoshop. But frankly, in the last 100 or so photos, I've probably found 1 or 2 require Photoshop rather than just Lightroom edits.

Never had a problem flying through my photos with PS. I dont like the way Lightroom wants you to browse your photos with it i just want to do any tweaks and save is tiff and be done with it.

Yes Photoshop is very good but i cannot justify spending that kind of money on software that i will never use to it's full potential as i am no graphics designer or photography pro.

knew what i forgot to add about NX, the edits you make on the NEF's are stored in the NEF file, no need to worry about a database file getting corrupted.
Just put NX back on my mac, opened some of my old D80 files & all the edit's i made on the pics from 5 yrs back are still in the NEF files. Plus you can make multiple versions of the same NEF & again they are stored in the NEF file.
The interface is showing its age, granted but its very powerful.
